My friend is getting a friend who is a chef to cook some food for a party and is looking for a vegan version of the... cob bread that is hollowed out and has a dip in it, so I come to you for help
( Read more... )
I have wondered about this for years, but our version of it involves a hollowed-out piece of of marble rye and bison dip (It's a Buffalo, NY thing...). Still, it would be awesome if I could actually make this, considering that I have watch my family every summer now for 3 years enjoy it :(
since there are amazing vegan subs for mayo and sour cream, you would just follow the directions on the bag of that knorr's spinach dip mix (which is vegan!) and replace with vegenaise (or any other vegan mayo, but vegenaise is the best) and tofutti better than sour cream. i do this a lot for family functions and i don't tell them that it's vegan.

with vegan mayo and sour cream?
I'd suggest making just about any one of your favourite dips with vegan substitutes for the non-vegan bases..

Tofutti sour cream guacamole (if you can't find the guac sour cream, use the reg)
1 pack tofutti better than cream cheese
1 10 oz bag frozen spinach
2 small jars artichoke- -drained
small jar water chestnuts- drained
1/2 bulb garlic (but you can use les, i just like garlic)
1/2 small onion (optional)
pinch of chili pepper
salt and pepper to taste
Throw it all in a food processor and blend, blend, blend.
the above can of course always be tweaked to suit your needs. i'm just one of those cooks that cooks by taste, so i don't have exact measurements.
and them i make a round loaf out of french bread and use that to put the dip in. Yummy!
