Vegan Fondue

So my brother got me this huge fondue set shortly before I went vegan, and I never got to use it. It's just sitting on my shelf making me feel wasteful. I really want to make a good "cheese" fondue, but all of the recipes I've found online have gotten really bad reviews. Has anyone tried this w/ success? Thanks!

Maybe try a vegan chocolate fondue? I think that would be really awesome. I never tried it so I don't have a recipe, but googling led to some recipes that sound delicious. You can dip strawberries, bananas and oreos! Good luck and let us know what you come up with!!

mmm i went to a vegan choco fondue party and it was wonderful! everyone brought something to dip- some were normal, like fruit, etc; some were more exotic like mint leaves and chilies.

I've had vegan chocolate fondue, prepared by an incredibly thoughtful friend who brought strawberries and muskmelon (:

I also had a grapefruit lying around, and it's surprising how god-damned delicious grapefruit dipped in chocolate is...

that's what i did with my fondue pots. somehow i have colleted three fondue pots and i usually do chocolate and i have been thinking a cheeze saucemight work. i heard if you put a little potato mash in the cheeze sauce it will keep it from getting that "skin" on top... i thought that'd be good for fondue.

You can also do vegetable broth and skewer veggies to sit around and cook in the broth...or vegetable oil and tempura type deal.

Maybe use the cheese sauce from the mac and cheese recipe at veganyumyum.com? It's pretty good. Or the cheezy sauce recipe from Veganomicon?

It's not a fondue, but during the holidays I mix follow your heart cheddar with a can of Rotel and make hot cheese dip. It needs a bit of a thickener added to it - the potato might work.

that sounds good and easy.. does that really taste good as a dipping sauce?

I really like it with tortilla chips, or poured over sauteed veggies + beans + chips as nacho cheese sauce. It's a little runny and does tend to get a skin on it pretty quickly, though, which is why I thought that the comment above about the potato mash was handy. I have to try that the next time.

It would probably work with crusty bread and apple slices (my favorite pre-vegan fondue dipping options) or any other veggies, really.
