Vegan Fondue

So my brother got me this huge fondue set shortly before I went vegan, and I never got to use it. It's just sitting on my shelf making me feel wasteful. I really want to make a good "cheese" fondue, but all of the recipes I've found online have gotten really bad reviews. Has anyone tried this w/ success? Thanks!

Edit: Tried the "Golden Cheaze ( Read more... )

if you can find a non-dairy leek soup mix, put that into your fondue pot along with a cup of white wine, most of a block of your favorite melty cheez, your favorite unbutter in the amount of what's been left off the block of cheez, and possibly a little thickener, depending on what happens to it as it cools. this is basically the veganized recipe for the best fondue i ever tasted in my life, which was made with chudder cheese. that's cheddar mixed with butter. obscene, but it made a nice fondue.

I tried one from this book and it turned out well. My meat-eating bro and sister-in-law approved at a surprisingly high level. I can't remember which I used. I'll have to get back to you when I get to my book if you are interested. It was plain, that's all I remember. Swiss? I dunno.

I'm lots of help. :)

PS - I think it was this one:

if that page works right. I used veggie broth instead of the milk sub. And the flour instead of oats as I didn't have any. And I think cornstarch (if I recall) where it's an option.

when i've been to the fondue restaurant near me, we've gotten the veggie broth fondue. it's quite tasty and delicious! then you can cook your veggies in the broth and have a variety of sauces for the dippers.

i have a warm mexican dip on my food blog (it's a nooch sauce half and half with salsa or taco sauce-- i'd use taco sauce for a fondue), and you could dip taquitos, veggies, baked/fried tofu, bread, warm pretzels... whatever.

but personally? i'd have a constant chocolate fondue going in my house 24/7 and you'd have to drag me away from it kicking and screaming, if *i* had a fondue pot ;)

Look up things on Chinese hot pot. Normally its in a big pot and everyone shares and its fun. But I've had it in little individual pots too. One time, it had water with tomato slices, garlic, peppers, and other herbs and thats it. Others (and they are better) are full of spices, though I can't name them. Regardless, hot pot is amazing. I'm a bit obsessed.
