vegan "honey"

i just thought i would let y'all know about the yummiest honey substitute around! there is a company called suzanne's specialties (www.suzannes-specialties.com) that makes Just Like Honey brown rice nectar. i order this stuff by the gallon jug it is so good. it tastes JUST like honey... like you can eat it by the spoonful it is so good. the ( Read more... )

agave nectar is a pretty good substitute as well- doesn't taste just like honey, but i think it tastes a little better ;o)

i've noticed the madhava brand light agave is pretty honey-tasting (out of the other agaves i've tasted)

Just out of curiosity... why would someone avoid maple syrup (out of all the syrupy sweeteners listed there?)

i know some people dont do any sweeteners besides grain sweeteners. the brown rice syrup alone is totally made from whole grain and is way better for your blood chemistry.

Also, maple syrup was traditionally rendered with lard, and many kinds still are. You can't really tell which ones, either, cause it's not an 'ingredient' per se.
