I spent all last night and morning watching Pride & Prejudice. I have always had a thing for Jane Austen's stories so it's no great surprise to tell that I liked it very much. I though three of the episodes might have gone too slowly, but I could live with it ( Read more... )

Aww... I loved S&S, book and movie ! I liked Emma too but I just read the book because Gwyneth Paltrow annoys me greatly. ^^;;

I always thought the movie heartwarming, but now that I finished reading the book and re-watched it I thought the book much better for it's subtlety and "19th century dignity". I do fear that they have to make everything so crude and vulgar in movies to get the point cross. Sad, but true. Literature is just unbeatable. Yet I am a great fan of films in general. Movie adaptations of literature just tends to be a bit bland - not always, but most of the time ( ... )

Mm... Books adaptations into movies is such a difficult thing. And usually very debated. *points to PJ's LOTR* Anyway, I can't tell about Emma as I didn't see the movie. I remember the book was 'delicious'. ^^

I haven't seen or read P&P. The series was aired once over there but I missed it. Oh well, no regret. I don't like Colin Firth that much. Eheh...

Ah ! Even if he played the part very well, Hugh Grant wasn't really at his place in S&S, especially as partner of Emma Thompson. Someone older would have been better. Except him, the cast was perfect. This movie made me discover Kate Winslet so I'll love it forever. I read the book after and couldn't see any better adaptation. And I totally adore costumes movies. I saw S&S costumes in an exhibition over there, Marianne's wedding dress was incredibly beautiful ( ... )

Emma, the movie, was thoroughly enjoybale thanks to Mr Knightley, played by Jeremy Northam. I didn't mind Gwyneth Paltrow, though her portrayal of Emma seemed to ditzy for my liking. The book Emma was very intervening, but more subtle than the movie. I do blame today's society for making the movie this way rather than the actors. I do think movies are made modern, regardless of the time they portray, to simplify things for the audience. The subtlety practised in the 19th century isn't something you'd do today ( ... )
