Modernismmmmm. My introduction was Samuel Beckett and Eliot. ^o^ I'm just starting to seriously love Joyce. I tried picking up Ulysses in high school and was completely baffled, but I'm rereading it now and DAMN. It's kind of restructuring the insides of my brain. Also, A GRAND PIANO. Why did I not think of this first?
Beckett! I ought to read more of that guy--I looooooved Waiting for Godot. To a ridiculous extent. And then I went and read Endgame and found it so. very. depressing. It could plunge Pollyanna into the blackest despair. And I haven't read any Beckett since. If you liked Beckett, though, I would very strongly recommend Aaron Petrovich's The Session. One of my favorite books ever--and the reason I picked it up was that on the cover some guy said "Petrovich is Beckett's organ." A strange testimonial that may seem, but it makes more sense in light of the book. Detectives Smith and Smith attempt to solve the murder of the Mathematician, whose organs were ripped out and stolen by a crowd who went mad attending his lecture on Essencism. :x
Hurrah! Joyce! I...am never going to be rid of Joyce. I love Ulysses. I will also be haunted by it until my death, like so many others. Oh well. Rock on, Telemachiad especially. my crush on Stephen Dedalus will never die; that dorkface. Remember your epiphanies on green oval leaves, deeply deep, copies
( ... )
I started with Endgame, and yes, it sort of sucked out my soul. And then stomped on it for a while. With stilettos. Do read more Beckett! His trilogy (Molloy, Malone Dies, and The Unnamable) is pretty damn spectacular.

(As did the excerpt I read. DIALOGUE. MAD DIALOGUE.) 74¢ used. Thank heavens for the internet.
This grand piano thing. I must make it happen. Odd fantasies keep the world from stagnating. XD
I know what you mean about living Somewhere Different. I kind of feel that I have to go away for college, as if something terrible might happen if I don't. I didn't cast my eyes quite as far as you did, though... Cities, for all their flaws, are great. I find that if I stay in my grandparents' house too long, which is in the middle of nowhere, I start getting twitchy and losing my mind. :( I need my chamber-music concerts and Shakespeare plays and art museums! And tea and cakes!
Haha, rain and wind are my favourite weather, too. :D Possibly with thunder in there, as well. And robbing art galleries sounds lovely. I shall make sure to bring my inter-dimensional art pirate gloves!
We have an upright grand piano in my house and it is a monster. When my brother plays it fills the whole house with sound - but since it's upright, sadly, I've never been able to sit underneath. I imagine it is quite the experience.
Way-nee, wee-dee, wee-kee? D8 Oh, and I would also like to see Cicero's reaction to Orangina. It would be neat.
