Question - what about the pokemon the poke cast who are affected has? Can they still use them this event or would they be confined to the pokeballs if they were in them at the time?

All pokemon will be confined to their pokeballs for the duration of the event. (That is, if you choose to have your character participate) However if you choose the Beast Master class for them, they will be able to have one of their pokemon free, using them as their familiar. I hope that make sense?

Yes, Mewtwo would still be able to talk. (So would Zorua)

Some of the classes, like Samurai, vary a decent amount between the games. I've been checking this compendium to get an idea of what the abilities of the different classes are.

Can we pick and choose from the different versions what we feel is appropriate?

You can just pick and choose what is more appropriate. We're all here to have fun, not to nitpick exactly at each stat. :)

Question: Even though Mami is not affected, she can still fight the monsters?

Unfortunately no! The monsters will be indifferent to her because she is not a class and she will most likely be treated as an NPC by monsters.
