Who: Danny Fenton and anyone
What: Christmas shopping.  Very, very secretly.
Where: The Plaza
When: Now

Danny warily makes his way through the shops around the plaza.  He really didn't want to run into anyone he knew.

He hated Christmas.  That hadn't changed.  But Sam liked it.  And so did a lot of the other people here.  And if there was one thing he ( Read more... )

He didn't know what he was doing, honestly. When all of the festivities had started, Izaya had promptly told himself that he wouldn't do anything. He wasn't going to decorate and he wasn't going to get gifts. There wasn't much of a point and yet...It seemed like all of the decoration had gotten to him because there he was.

He wasn't that far away from Danny at all, just staring into a display window of gifts when he huffed suddenly. It was impossible. He had never really bought gifts before and he wasn't sure who he was even buying for. So turning away, he stopped nearly at once to avoid running into Danny.

"Sorry~," he said, and he was about to step around the kid when he seemed to notice something that made him stop.

"Is something wrong?"

Danny freezes and hastily backsteps. "No? Nothing's wrong? Why would anything be wrong?"

Ran was, for the first time since had arrived here, wandering the city on her own. Her father, Conan, and herself had all finally settled on a house in the Ordo Neighborhood due to its complete furnishings and close proximity to the library.

One thing the house was lacking, though, were holiday decorations.

Now, in Japan, Christmas was typically considered a 'dating' holiday - at least to adults and teenagers. But Ran's father Kogoro couldn't give a single care about the day, and Conan was just a kid. So naturally the only option was to get a Christmas tree and "prepare the house for Santa."

...even though Conan was a spoil-sport who didn't believe in Santa, but that's beside the point.

Ran was skeptical that she'd find everything she needed in one go, but she had to at least get started. It seemed that she wasn't the only one with that idea.

Oh! So there were other kids here! That's a relief! Ran smiled at the boy who was weaving through the aisles in the latest shop she had stopped into. "Looking for Christmas presents ( ... )

Danny offers her a nervous smile. "Something like that. You too?"

Ran brightly smiles back and nods. "Yup! We just got here, so I figured I'd help the rest of my family feel more at home by putting up Christmas decorations!"

"Your family is here too? That's lucky." And not thinking about his own family right now. No way.

[Hey, Danny, it's that adorable ghost dog! He bounces up, tail wagging. He is yapping a little, and since Danny IS a ghost...]

WELCOME!

[...That's kind of his thing.]

[Oh, hey. It was that ghost dog again. Danny gives him a quick grin, forgetting that he'd only met him as a ghost before.]

Hey, Missile. What's up?

[He yaps again. The person looks a little different, but sounds the same, so it must be Danny!]

Miss Lynne is here! [Yap, yap!]

[There's a kitty staring at you from underneath a cart. Suddenly, he leaps at Danny, trying to latch on to his pant leg.]

[... Shush. Ghost kitty is bored kitty.]

[kjahfahf, Where did the cat come from? Danny flails a bit trying to get it off, until he finally registers what his ghost sense was telling him.]

I swore I'd tag this, lookit me all taggin'! /puts off things duncansdontsing December 19 2011, 21:47:27 UTC
So, Danny wasn't the only one with something against Christmas. Duncan was in that same boat, seemed like every year he came down with Seasonal Apathy Disorder right around the holly-jolly holiday. Buuuut he wasn't about to let that mess up anyone else's Christmas. Or let them know that he was actually going out of his way to try and give his friends a nice one. That'd be one great big shot in the foot for his public image.

So imagine his horror at bumping into Danny outside the shops. Carrying a duffel bag full of gifts and gift supplies in one hand, and holding a list with people's names in the other. He recovered quickly though, and balled up the hand with the list inside into a fist to threaten Danny with.

"Watch it, dweeb! If I didn't promise Sam I'd take it easy on you, I'd knock your teeth down your throat."

...hm. Well, that didn't sound as genuine as usual. Still, A for effort, right?

"Oh great. It's you."

Danny really didn't feel like dealing with this today. He still hadn't found anything for Sam.

"My thoughts exactly. Like havin' to deal with this stupid holiday isn't bad enough."

He hoped Danny'd be a little too preoccupied focusing on the death glare Duncan was shooting him to notice him lower his fist and slip that list right back into his pocket. And even if the did, there's always head trauma, right? Right

"Why the heck's it gotta follow me down here anyway?! None of these losers know what 'Canada' is, but they somehow know about Christmas?!"

And of course, now Duncan is being interrupted by one of the townspeople, giving him a stocking to hang. Again. And once he's slung his duffel bag over his shoulder, that stocking will be the fifteenth one he's ripped apart- again. Honestly if it weren't for the fact his lighter were out of fuel, he'd probably set it on fire right in front of Danny.

"Um, why are you talking to me?" Danny had been perfectly happy being ignored. He just wanted to get Sam's present and get out of here before all the decorations and the stockings made him scream.

...Personally he'd been using the stockings as target practice.
