Ran was, for the first time since had arrived here, wandering the city on her own. Her father, Conan, and herself had all finally settled on a house in the Ordo Neighborhood due to its complete furnishings and close proximity to the library.

One thing the house was lacking, though, were holiday decorations.

Now, in Japan, Christmas was typically considered a 'dating' holiday - at least to adults and teenagers. But Ran's father Kogoro couldn't give a single care about the day, and Conan was just a kid. So naturally the only option was to get a Christmas tree and "prepare the house for Santa."

...even though Conan was a spoil-sport who didn't believe in Santa, but that's beside the point.

Ran was skeptical that she'd find everything she needed in one go, but she had to at least get started. It seemed that she wasn't the only one with that idea.

Oh! So there were other kids here! That's a relief! Ran smiled at the boy who was weaving through the aisles in the latest shop she had stopped into. "Looking for Christmas presents?"

It wasn't obvious, but there were only so many things a young boy would be doing in a store at this time of year, right?

Danny offers her a nervous smile. "Something like that. You too?"

Ran brightly smiles back and nods. "Yup! We just got here, so I figured I'd help the rest of my family feel more at home by putting up Christmas decorations!"

"Your family is here too? That's lucky." And not thinking about his own family right now. No way.

Ran gave the boy a worried look. "Are you here all alone?"

"One of my friends is here." As much as he would have wished that she could have stayed safe at home. But he knew better than to ever mention that wish aloud to Sam.

"That's good!" Ran smiled. "Getting a gift for him, then?"

"Her," he corrects plainly. "And yes. Hopefully. If I can find anything."

"Oops! Sorry!" Ran nervously smiled. "So you're shopping for a girl? That makes it easier!" She beamed. "I can help you if you like!"

"Seriously? That could be a big help." He smiles sheepishly. "I'm a little stumped, considering this place is a little low on spooky bat stuff."

Ran blinked a few times. "Spooky bat stuff? But Halloween was months ago!" She couldn't help but laugh a little bit. This boy clearly had his holidays mixed up!

"That's Sam for you. She's really into everything creepy and dark. Oh, and ultra-recyclo vegetarianism and monster movies."

"Sam? Sam..." Ran recognized the name. She held her chin and looked down in thought. "Sam..."

After a moment, her eyes lit up and she smiled. "A-ha! That girl who brought Conan-kun the medicine!" She nervously smiled. "I didn't peg her as that type of girl..." 'That type' meaning 'the complete and total opposite of Ran.'

"Really? She doesn't make a secret of it." Actually a lot of the time she advertised it really loudly.

Ran shrugged and gave an earnest smile. "Well, I just talked to her for a little bit, and it was mostly about Conan-kun being sick, and getting settled in to a place."

"So..." She started looking around. "She likes serious things...and sometimes spooky things..."

"Yeah, pretty much." He shrugs. "I was thinking of trying to find a player and some DVDs of her favorite horror flicks."

"Conan?"
