Previously Motochika had been willing to give Mitsuhide space, but as the anniversary of Honnouji closed in he knew better than to leave Mitsuhide alone
( ... )
So much for not waking Motochika up. Mitsuhide shook his head minutely before turning a little, so that his legs were pressed against the side of the bed and he could tilt his head to look at his lover. He rested his left hand on the sheets.
"I don't think I could fall asleep again, my Lord," he replied quietly. "I probably slept for too long as it is."
There was a slight ache in his back which likely indicated he'd slept in the hut for at least three or four hours before Motochika had come to bring him home. Sleeping most nights on a thick mattress, be it his own soft one or Motochika's waterbed, meant he could no longer sleep comfortably on tatami.
They'd been in Vatheon a long time.
"But you don't look ready to be awake yet. I'm sorry for disturbing you... please sleep again, if you need it." There was a pause. Mitsuhide's gaze moved to the window. "I'll be fine. There are plenty of books on our shelves that I have not read yet; I can just settle with one of those."
Motochika laid his head back onto his pillow and ran a hand over his face, in an effort to wake himself properly. He then pulled himself into a sitting position.
"Will you be?" he questioned bluntly, not averting his own gaze.
Shifting onto his knees, Motochika made his way across the bed, still tangled in the covers. Once he reached Mitsuhide he draped himself across his lover's back and tucked his chin over Mitsuhide's shoulder, resting his cheek in the juncture between Mitsuhide's shoulder and neck. His eyelids fell shut; his breathing was still a little slow and deep.
Mitsuhide didn't answer the question. Saying 'yes' would be something they'd both know was a lie, and saying 'no' would... well. He didn't want to say it so directly, not yet, even if it was perfectly obvious that such was the truth.
"You seem very determined to keep me here, Lord Motochika." Mitsuhide closed his own eyes briefly. "It is still rather early, I suppose."
He lingered in the embrace for a moment before pulling away and standing up. Most of his books were downstairs, lining the shelving units in the living room, but he had plenty within his bedroom as well. Tracing several volumes with a finger, he took a minute or two to finally settle on something suitable.
Not that he thought he'd get very far into it. Despite what he'd said to his lover he knew it would be hard to focus on a story, all things considered.
That done, he returned to the bed and sat on the edge of it, feet still on the floor.
