My idea on this is as follows.

I have no issues pro-dommeing at all what so ever, in fact it has been offered to me and some day I may take up the offer just for the funzies (technical term, let it go)

But the idea of protectionism is silly, you're not allowing a person to enter the community, they're going to a place where a professional is there to take care of them. This would be akin to a massage studio causing people who do massage work at home to go up in arms. The concept is the same even if the ideas are different. You are touching another person to fulfill that persons need and or desire.

I don't mind the idea in any way the idea of sharing this with new people, in fact that's kind of a hallmark of mind finding new ones and bringing them in.

I happen to know a pro-domme (thus the invite) and we've had some chats about it, it's not nearly as seedy as one would believe because the cost is very prohibitive, and the rules are very clear. If you violate the rules you're out on your ear faster than you could believe.

I have seen some of this "protectionism" in the Neo-Pagan community. The whole idea of "only a Witch can make a Witch," or "you must initiate with us or you're not really an witch" or the eye rolling and sarcastic "Oh, you're an "eclectic*....gotchya." Because both the BDSM and the Neo-Pagan communities still remain to some degree marginalized from mainstream society, there are still those that don't like the idea of unwashed masses coming in and taking part of things that aren't for them ( ... )

Very interesting post. Definitely makes one think. I'd have to say that i'm close to Vanni's perspective, especially since i'm also very (small l) libertarian. Thank you for sharing :)
