After Jack got off the phone with Mitchell, but before he needed to begin the whole naked-locked-up-and-probably-eating-rats part of his evening, it occurred to him that other people might want to hear from him too. Kate got a text.

1 night down, 2 to go. whole thing sucks but I am ok.

Was it bad that it took Kate a moment to figure out what he meant? Or was it just a sign that there were too many fucked up things going on at once and she had trouble keeping them in order in her head?

Either way, it made her wrinkle her nose as she texted back.

well i suppose thas the best news i'v gotten all day.

... She'd had a little to drink.

Jack squinted at that one for a moment -- look, he was a bit self-involved at the moment, so it took him a second to decipher what she might mean -- before deciding it warranted an upgrade to a phone call.

So there was Kate's phone ringing.

"So he texted you too." A pause. "Hi."

Kate shushed Evan (yeah, she was still there - being alone right now was not something she was rushing to do) and pushed off the bed before taking the call.

While preparing to try and sound normal for Evan's sake.

"Hi," she agreed. "And yeah. He did."
