Got home from Mb's this afternoon and found A SNAKE in the middle of my kitchen floor. Yellow, about a foot and a half long. I used a sponge mop to pin it down, and picked it up with a pair of tongs (which I'll never be able to use for food serving again!) and flung it out the front door. Ah well, at least shopping in your sleep is cheap!

I'm not freaked out by snakes....but then again, you really only find garter snakes naturally where I live, so I'm sure that's a factor...

When I told her about it, Mb Googled yellow snakes and we decided it was a yellow rat snake. Which isn't bad, since Florida *does* have venomous snakes, and I've already had a spider bite to deal with---don't need any snakebites, no thanks!

Cheap but ephemeral---nothing new has appeared in my closet. Thank goodness for GK's CARE packages!

Don't know how efficient it was---I was so rattled, I forgot I stick something in the fridge. Fortunately, it survived!

I still miss my Western King Snake a bit, but I would certainly freak out if I had a random encounter with an unidentified reptile, especially in your semi-tropical neck of the woods.

Yeah, if it had been something immediately recognizable like a python, it wouldn't have freaked me out as much, but the mystery fauna is definitely a Florida drawback!
