MI5/Spooks - JOOLS!

Ah, what bliss---"MI5/Spooks" arrived yesterday (when I was preoccupied with slashing), so I didn't get to enjoy it until today. And oh, yes, I enjoyed it *very* much ( Read more... )

*nods* Yeah, I was disappointed when they stopped making those. And I have a couple Buffy fans who I look forward to chasing down...I will inflict Peter Salter on them just to see them go into shock at the ending...and personally drool over Jools along the way....

Jools is totally kickass. Apparently all of Britain's TV critics were astounded when Hugh Laurie turned into Greg House. You wonder if they slept through "Spooks," because Jools makes House look like someone's cuddly uncle.

The "skinheads" line is just priceless, as is the little drinking contest between Jools and Harry in which all is revealed.

I also liked "Don't be a prick-tease, you Russian babboon!" There's something about that elegant voice saying such vulgar things that turns me to goo. And speaking of teasing, there was that scene where Jools has smuggled the memoirs into MI5 in his trousers...and one catches a glimpse of his black and white striped silk boxers.... *obligatory squee*

I'm a relative newcomer to the many and varied charms of Hugh Laurie. I happened to watch House out of sheer curiousity toward the end of this season, because it seemed like half my f'list was babbling raving going on about it, and was quite intrigued. Then a friend of mine sat me down in front of "Jeeves and Wooster"...when Hugh opened his mouth and all that creamy Englishness came out, my jaw dropped and OMSMFG, (heart!). So now I'm playing catch-up. (Forget "Stuart Little"---even Hugh isn't hot enough to get me to sit through that schmaltz again.) But Ian---and Jools!---have been quite entertaining.

That Jools had the memoirs in his trousers also means, most likely, that he was behind the nasty prank of leaving a package of poop for MI-5 to find when they dug up the rose garden. Just another little bit of dark, dirty vulgarity under his extremely civilized veneer.

Something I really liked about his turn as Jools was how he conveyed Jools' zest for his work without making him frothing-at-the-mouth maniacal. Jools isn't troubled about things like Harry and Tom are, but he's not dismissive about the losses and the costs. There are lots of very subtle layers in that performance that make Jools one very complicated bad guy.

Speaking of complicated, what did you think of Tessa?

When Tessa started shagging that guy right there in the corridor, my brains almost leaked out my ears. And her laughing comment about how screwing inside MI5 must be worth some air-miles...oh MY. I really do need to watch the whole first series, not just the juicy bits with Jools. I saw the one where her ex-lover came back from the dead, and she told him how she'd lost his baby...that was awesome. *hugs self and shivers*

I adored the gent's club ambiance they put Jools in...it's like the opera; so civilised and such a contrast to his well-tailored ruthlessness. I find myself thinking about that comment he made to the Russian, about how they met over a body in a hotel room. That story is begging to be told....

Okay, we aren't in competition, much. I'm mad for Hugh; I like ASH, but I'm not *wild* about him, and don't care one way or another about Bruce. (All yours!)

On the other hand, I have a long-standing lust for Sean Bean (dating clear back to "Patriot Games"---never mind LotR!), Antonio Banderas ("Desperado") and Vin Diesel. *happy sigh*

Or alternate personas...some days, a girl's more in the mood for tea with Bertie than opera with Jools.
