A Hat...and what a hat!

Today's dog was cancelled, which doesn't bother me; I need to do laundry. It's in progress even as we speak: the first half of the first load is in the dryer. I read somewhere that one way to extend your washer's life is NOT to do back-to-back loads but to allow the motor time to cool down in between...so I've been drying half a load at a time, ( Read more... )

I have a mental picture of Kat looking down on the proceedings and saying, "Great hat, babe." :D

*nods* She would. And I already know she liked the skirt, which she saw me in a couple times, and always complimented me as enthusiastically as if it was the first time.

Thanks. The Hat is a doozy.

Btw, the card you send has arrived, along with an ad for Catherine's...since I'm inheriting Kat's microwave, I may go invest in a decent bra.

If I haven't said so, I'm sorry to hear about Kat, and you're in my thoughts.

And I thoroughly support the wearing of items to a funeral that are appropriate to what the deceased would have loved and less to what people think "should" be done -- Hepmom wore a reddish dress at Hepdad's funeral, because she couldn't bear wearing black. And she refused to have him dressed in a suit and tie because he hated wearing them. Both entirely appropriate, as far as I was concerned.

GK could find the shoes that went with the suitthat Kat for her son's wedding in the fall. She found another pair, told the funeral home dude that if they didn't fit, not to force anything, that barefoot was fine since that was what her mom would have been most comfortable with.

*hugs back* Thanks for being here.

Some day soon I need to post the tale of the very roundabout way that I got involved with that family, and some of the far-reaching ramifications it's had. It's quite a story, going back more than 30 years.

The hat sounds marvelous (and makes me wish, yet again, that I could wear hats). And I think wearing something you know Kat liked is far better than wearing, say, black just because that's what people think should be done.

My mother used to say that she envied my ability to wear hats. Not every hat, alas, because I have a large head with a lot of hair, but quite a few. I read something about that once: "There are two reasons to wear a hat---to hide, or to show off." While a hat will definitely help a bad hair day---I am currently in need of a touch-up, and look forward to being able to conceal the fact with The Hat---it takes a certain amount of bravado to pull off.
