More domesticity

It makes me happy to walk into my much-improved kitchen. In addition to the aforementioned titivations, I took everything off the back of the stove and wiped it down. And wiped down the mirror behind the stove, although it's streaky---I didn't find the glass cleaner until late in the process and by then, everything was back in place. Your clearing out and cleaning up is so inspiring. Today we got out all the vacuums we have (an ancient but functional Filter Queen, a less-ancient, functional *if* we can find some broken parts cannister Kenmore, two stick vacs, and a Hoover upright) and decided that none of them work for the space upstairs, which is why all of us fight vacuuming so much. So, the Hoover or the Filter Queen will be used downstairs and the rest freecycled or Goodwilled, and we're going to try again to find a vacuum with a narrow enough head but powerful enough suction, and a small and agile body if it's upright or a light and easily maneuverable body if it's a cannister to maneuver amongst all the furniture to do the one 6'x9' oriental-type rug, the short-loop industrial nylon carpet, and the hardwood and linoleum floors upstairs so we can keep up with the cat hair. It's research! I just hope there's something out there--that we can afford. I just can't horse *all* the furniture to one side of the room and vacuum the empty spot and then horse *all* the ( ... )

One of the first things I did when I inherited this place was rip out the (nasty 70s gold) wall-to-wall carpet. I HATE to vacuum. I have ONE area rug in the living room, and that's it. My vacuum is a wet/dry canister vac that I drag out every second or third blue moon. Thankfully, I have no pet hair to contend with; my major issue is fallout from craft projects.
