After work I settled down to look up more career counseling opportunities, but the trail was cold, so I drifted over to Craigslist and found some entry-level writing and editing job postings I would theoretically consider applying for. This morning as I was walking up Carden Street, I noticed a small feather blowing ahead of me. There was only the lightest breeze, but it hovered just a few paces ahead of me for an entire block. It finally landed at the corner. I picked it up. It was a smallish feather, innocuous grey with a streak of black and some white down. I saw another one ( Read more... )

This evening I finished threading the heddles on the loom. The total number of threads turns out to be 521. I was expecting an even number, so hopefully there isn't an error somewhere. An odd number is awkward with the twill pattern I've planned, but I believe I can fix the problem by offsetting the last thread in the heddle sequence. That's what I ( Read more... )

The main thing I did today was thread heddles, so I'm about two-thirds done. I just counted them: 400 so far. One more evening this week and the loom will be dressed.

Other than that I went grocery shopping, took bottles for refund, did laundry and dishes, and ate five or six peaches. It was a nice, quiet day to myself. The only people I talked to ( Read more... )

Partway through arranging the warp across the raddle, I realized I hadn't made the warp wide enough, no surprise really. It was easy to make a counting error with this project because it includes threads of varying thickness. Thick ones counts as two thin. I had been estimating as I made the warp, sometimes lost count and had to guess where I was. ( Read more... )
