Men Cheat

John Edwards admitted to having an affair. Although apparently he did not admit to fathering the baby.  Honestly he's not running anymore so politically I don't think it has much of an impact. I think give him six months and he'll be back.  I feel bad for Elizabeth, she seems like a nice lady.

But let's face it. Men cheat. Women cheat, too. Men ( Read more... )

It shouldn't have much political impact, but all the 24 hour news networks a) need something to talk about all day and b) love sex scandals, so a story that really should die pretty quickly may live on for quite awhile. Let us never (mis)underestimate the awesome power of the news networks to spread and prolong meaningless bullshit.

I think they're going to crucify him, and try to smear Obama by proxy as well with it, particularly since his wife was either getting treatment for cancer or recovering from said treatment around the time of the affair (I'm not sure exactly how the timing of that worked out, but I'm sure they're going to emphasize that he cheated on his cancer-striken wife. News people will love this).

Ugh. Can't we bomb CNN and Fox and replace them with a BBC news feed or something?

Yeah, but Edwards is smart. It's why he dumped it on a Friday, and the Friday the Olympics start no less! Even less people than usual will be paying attention to the "chatter" for the next couple of weeks.

It's true, and that was probably smart.

Just...as a 2004 Howard Dean supporter, I have almost no faith remaining in the media to let insignificant stories die in favor of, y'know, actual news. They somehow took a 10 second soundbyte and used it to kill an entire political career...it frightens me what they could do with something like this. But I hope I'm wrong and this thing just dies.

I do feel bad for Elizabeth, although apparently she knew as far back as 2006? Which wouldn't explain why this was going on in 2007/08 unless they've privately separated or something.

I don't care that he cheated. My issue is that (allegedly) his PAC paid a huge sum of money to her. Shady.

It's yet to be made clear if the money came before, during or after the affair. If they met on the level, then made the connection, she starts working for him then they have an affair, I don't know.
Ugggh, I don't want any details. Can't people have sex in peace?
