I thought it was awesome as like, a big gratuitous wank, but pretty fail if you start considering it as a movie. And... all the inevitable sequels.

Ahahhaahahaha. I thought the opposite, actually. That it was kind of lame because it was such a derivitive of canon, but that I would have enjoyed it more if it'd be wholly an original work.

I enjoyed it and I didn't expect to. I made a couple jokes about babyfaced Kirk, younger McCoy, but I was pretty happy with it. The actors clearly watched the show and are a good reflection of the older actors (except maybe John Cho, who isn't give much to do anyway). It had enough fanwank to keep me in stitches the whole time.

Except now my friend James is confused as to whether Abrams in fact "destroyed" original trek canon by altering the timeline and creating another universe.

Ahahaha, well I'm glad you enjoyed it. I went in with like zero expectations and was pleasantly surprised, so I call it a win.

IT IS AN ALTERNATE TIMELINE SOMEHOW ITS OKAY.

Yeah, it's not OMG THE BEST THING EVAR!!! and it has some plot holes and annoying bits, but I was entertained more than I expected to be, so. I call it a win.

I know it's an AU but I kept expecting them to go into the future and fix the Romulan thing. I suppose it's possible Spock will do so eventually since Ambassador Spock did the mind-meld, which would close this whole universe off. Time travel and loops make my head hurt. So, we pretty much have no Vulcans now which is a huge change.

I did sort of notice the lack of female characters when I saw Winona Rider was in it and I had to think of a female character she might have been. Uhura was the only real one; Spock's mother only got a few scenes. Feh.

a scene of the Enterprise rising up out of the atmosphere of Titan with Saturn framed in the back of it that was coolOh yeah, I loved that scene ( ... )
