I thought it was because there's a huge shipyard there, and thus logically a Starfleet airbase or something where new recruits in that region would gather.
I was gonna say this but since you already did I am just going to quote it for emphasis. That's what I thought too!
Being a TNG baby with little TOS experience, I liked it a whole darn lot. I nearly got teary eyed when Nimoy!Spock said "live long and prosper." Haha. I liked the Uhura/Spock bits, Simon Pegg, McCoy, and Sulu fencing. And stuff. I'm too tired to go into detailllll.
one where the ship comes in guns blazing that looked far more awesome than anything they could ever pull off in the original series.
I loved that and when it happened I was like "yeah, that needed to happen" because there hadn't been enough WOO ENTERPRISE GO scenes until that point.
I loved it entirely too much; I'm still on a squee high. However, I do not have the background of being a hardcore Trekkie to perhaps hinder my enjoyment of the movie (like my being a hardcore Star Wars fan might have perhaps hindered my enjoyment of the prequels).
But I loved it. Unabashedly. Will see again.
If it makes you feel better, I could see some Kirk/McCoy? I adored Karl Urban in that role.
But. Old!Spock/Kirk? Dude. No. But I'm totally on board for T'Pol/Spock. Oh, they things they've seen! So much to talk about. So many years with crazy humans!
Okay, I would have probably marooned Scotty too. Porthos was the cutest dog ever! Though it was probably a Porthos relative. Still. Bad Scotty, no biscuit!
LOL! I totally wanted to do the same thing. Though I thought it'd be awkward to start squeeing "OMG! R U VANDONOVAN?!?" in the middle of the theatre, lol.
Awww, booo! You should've signed up to volunteer! You'd be busy doing shit but at least you'd be there.
Hmph. Damn Niala. If only she had introduced us, I could've shown you the nifty necklace I was wearing with the vintage typewriter key with a forward slash, lol.
Well, even if I volunteered I'd still have to have a place to sleep and food and gas to get there, etc. It's just not possible. I even had a friend offer my a free pass, basically. I just can't do it. ;_; Ah well. I never have fun at ComicCon anyway. XD
I'm sure we'll get to meet again properly sometime. At least I know what you look like now!
I need to defend myself! I was totally thinking today about my epic fail last night, but I was feeling like crap! I've been popping (zinc) pills like a Desperate Housewife all day! And I did point you guys out to each other, nothing stopped you guys from saying hi! Esp you, Annika!

I blame her, too. Niala utterly fails at introducing people, lol.
And hi, right back at ya. You going to Comic Con next month?
