Neville smiled at Luna as she pranced around the house, putting up Christmas decorations. They had just moved in to this house, and Luna had immediately suggested upon making the house feel more like home. She handed him a string of fairy lights, and Neville levitated the strand, setting it just above the fireplace.
“It looks quite festive, doesn’t it?” Luna said, looking around their living room. Neville nodded in agreement. “We just have to put up the tree.”
Neville had bought a muggle Christmas tree, at Luna’s request, and it was now sitting in the corner. They went over and opened the box, and Neville spread the pieces of the tree all over the floor. Luna took the instruction booklet.
“How hard could this be?” Luna asked, reaching for one of the pieces, and glancing at the instructions.
It was a lot harder than Luna had expected, and within minutes small fake green pine needles covered their carpet, and only two of the pieces of tree were together in the correct way. Luna looked confused, and so did Neville. He never remembered his grandmother’s Christmas tree being this complicated.
Eventually, they did get their tree put together, and Neville stood back, admiring it. It was slightly crooked at the top, but it still looked good in his eyes.
“I like it.” Luna said, stepping back and wrapping an arm around Neville’s waist. It was bare, but already it made the room look even cosier.
Neville slipped his hand into his pocket, and took out his wand. With a quick flourish, silvery glitter appeared on top of the tree, and softly snowed down, resting softly on all of the branches. With another wave, the box of ornaments opened, and they quickly went to hanging them on all the branches. At the bottom of the box, Neville softly took out the gold, glittery star. He handed it to Luna, and she set it on the top of the tree.
“Let’s see it lit up!” Luna said, smiling. She flourished her wand, and the lights in the room went out, and the multi-coloured lights on the tree lit up. Luna smiled. “It’s beautiful.”
Neville wrapped his arm around Luna’s shoulders, and Luna wrapped her arm around his waist again. It was their first Christmas together, and there were many, many more to come for them.
