I think I’m living under a rock. Why? Easy…

A while ago, Amazon announced that the Kindle was their number 1 best-selling product. Now, Barnes & Noble is saying the same about the Nook. They sold millions. MILLIONS!

Don’t you think that, if they really sold millions of these things, you would actually see someone using it at some point? I’ve never ( Read more... )

LOL! I got a Kindle for my birthday, so now you know someone who has one. It's pretty cool - I'm enjoying it.

Are you reading fanfic on it? Because I think that's how I could see myself using such a device.

Yup, quite a bit of it. I have to get a pdf of the fanfic and then convert it to the Kindle format, so it's a bit of a hassle, but at least I'm not printing them out like I used to.

I know quite a few people who print. I've never done that, but having my favourite fic on an eReader - that sounds quite good!

My sister has a Sony Reader. I saw a lot of people using various readers on the Metro public transit system in Washington DC when I was there this summer. So yeah, they're out there.

Me, I haven't decided yet if I really want to spend the money on what for me would just be a gadget and not really a necessity. If the price comes down more, I'll probably get one, but not yet.

That's my thinking as well. It's a lot of money for something you don't necessarily need *shrugs*.

That's quite the number... I don't think anyone in Germany would own the Nook, but we have Oyo (which is the device from a big German chain, Thalia). I haven't seen this one around either. Maybe I should go to Berlin and go by tube - that's where I would expect such gadgets:)

Yeah, but I remember the hassle you had with getting books! Has this gotten any better? Because if it's easier to buy a paperback internationally - why own an eReader then?

I know the problem of having too many books. I'm selling quite a few of them, but I still have more than is healthy. But I do have space, so that's not a pressing issue.

How does the iPad compare? I've heard it's actually more comfortable to read on something that doesn't have a backlight.

I have a Sony Reader that I bought about two and a half years ago, and I love the thing. Whenever I'm off taking my learning disabled son somewhere that is going to take time (dentist appointments, Special Olympics practice) I make sure the thing is charged up and ready to go. All of my favorite fan-fics are on that thing.

I think my hubby wants something similar - I'll have to check prices for him so he can get books to read before bed. I suppose it will depend on which device is the most flexible in terms of file formats it will read and/or the bounty of books available - and the price of the ebooks themselves.

Fanfic is something that's tempting, I must say - but spending this much money just to read fanfic? Nah... And for books I actually prefer books:)

I sell a lot. I started doing that a few years back. In the end, I read most books only once, so it makes sense to keep only stuff I like.
