Fantasy Book Covers

So, apparently, you can go and do a survey on what’s been on fantasy book covers this year. More dragons? Less swords? More glowery foggy stuff? And aren’t you just terribly curious to know?

No? I don’t care, you absolutely have to click to see this ridiculous chart - complete with ridiculous explanations and pseudo-serious talk of “the number of ( Read more... )

Oh, that's funny. Seems all businesses, even book publishers, live and die by their charts these days.

On the other hand... I'm loving the cover art on that ad for "The Black Prism". I have no idea who that author is--might be dreck for all I know--but the cover looks very nice (and falls under the "headshots", "swords" and perhaps "smoke/fog/mist" categories, since apparently someone's now counting...)

LOL, you're just saying that because the guy on the cover looks very pretty. You're so shallow;-)

I must say, personally I don't care so much about covers. On the other hand, what really annoys me is when publishers change the style of the cover/book layout within a series. That just happened to the Sookie Stackhouse books in Germany. They switched from taking the original American covers (complete with silver glitter) to the slick tv-look with the red/bloody lips. Me not like:(

Yes, that's exactly why I say that. Guilty as charged and happy to admit it. *g*

I'm with you on liking covers within a series to remain the same format. I've been buying Dick Francis books on their first day in the stores for years (the only books I do that with instead of waiting to get a used copy or a remainder copy from the bargain table at Borders or Barnes and Noble), and fortunately, they've been the same format for, well, quite a long time. It remains to be seen if they'll change the format now that his son Felix will be taking over the franchise but I hope they don't.
