You should try the Golden Arrow dining train on the Bluebell Railway, Art Deco Edwardian Pullman carriages pulled the way they were intended - by a Steam Locomotive!
It's silver service on Friday and Sat evenings and less formal on Sunday lunchtime. In the run up to Christmas they run every evening and people really go to town and dress up in Edwardian costume, there is also Carol singing by candlelight on one of the platforms between dessert and coffee.
Sounds like a fabulous trip. shewhomust and I did Chicago to San Francisco on the California Zephyr over the Easter weekend. We must compare notes. I saw the headline Lightning strike halts trains and I immediately took it the wrong way - guerilla action by RMT members. Anyhow, they seem to have treated you a lot better than passengers on regular trains.
