So, what you are saying is that we need to get back to our roots and small town societies, rather than global everything? Not a bad idea and really the system worked at that point and not everything was as readily accessible, but as this might be a global recession that may never end, it isn't the end of the world or civilization, it is just a change. Humans will still live. It might be difficult, but it has been done before.

Yes, the world will be much, much bigger in the future, and we'll be doing much more within 5 miles of home, rather than 50 miles from home.

The immediate need is to start getting people excited and motivated to build up their self sufficiency skills, such as gardening, food preservation, human powered transport, etc... while also working with neighbors (and community) to transition into a self sufficient small neighborhoods or communities that can take care of their own basic needs, most especially, food, water, shelter, and exchange.
