Well, a 5K is a little diferent then training for an actual marathon. For me, I was already running three miles a day (which I've cooled off of lately, just in consideration for the health of my knees in the long run). So what I did, was just slowly ofer the course of the month, worked on making my three mile time faster and faster. This helped cause I run on a treadmill, thus I can force my body to have to keep up with faster speeds.
I ran my 5K on June 18th, and I did it in 23:22, averageing 7:33 a mile, and 94th out of 505 (but that's completely misleading, cause it was a Walk/Run)
