DWho S3: late to the party again

Jan 16, 2009 10:48

Watched the end of the Martha season the other night, and now I finally understand all the fuss about John Simm. What brilliant casting that was! For the the Master to come off as the Doctor's sort of evil twin they had to have an actor who could sell it, and he did. Simm and Tennant were so well-matched: in energy, glibness, borderline mania, ( Read more... )

Okay, now I totally have to listen to that song.

I'll look it up before you answer, but I'm intrigued to know WHICH guy who was in love with Hero/Billie is engaged to Martha. I guess I'm hoping it's not Don, since he's currently got a recurring role as Christina's feckless husband on Ugly Betty which hasn't made me like him any more than MAAN did, but it's not like Claude was a prize, either.

(Huh. The imdb didn't help, because BOTH Claude and Don are on DW!)

Oh, be fair! Claude-the-character may not be a catch, but the actor's a cutie. It was him, of course.

Not surprising that any British actor was on DW, but I don't remember Don (though I do remember the episode). By the way, Derek Jacobi was also in the S3 finale!

Don played someone named Sir Robert. That's all I know.

And yes, I'm sure Claude was better looking, or at least taller with more hair. ;)

Dear Richard Armitage,

You are better than this! So much better. Please start making more costume dramas where you can wear cravats and brood swoon-inducingly, and leave Robin Hood to the baby-faced wannabes.

Sincerely,

Your fans

I'll add my signature to that! *sigh* At least he's on Spooks now too, where they let him be pretty.

Matthew McFadyen does Spooks, too, does he not? *sigh* And I have never seen it...

I'm so bereft!

(Hey, they should get Jamie! They should get Jamie to be one of teh Spooks! None of this Law and Order UK nonsense!)

Neither one's anything special (imo) in a still photograph, but in action there's a vitality that's decidedly attractive.

BINGO.

RH S3 has officially succeeded in making The Armitage unattractive. Well done, costume dept! If not for him and Toby Stephens' guest role I'd certainly have dropped the show by now.

Oh, Armitage. He looks like he's audition to be Edward Cullen. (Is it bad that I'm...kind of okay with all the leather strappiness, though? I find medieval leather outfits, um, wicked hot.)

I loved the Master and Martha's storyline in the S3 finale, but otherwise thought they were terrible episodes. I mean...Doctor Dobby the House Elf? Who gets magically zapped back to normal because the world all chants, "I do believe in fairies, I do! I do!" at the same time? It made me headdesk myself into oblivion.

The Master was awesome, though. And I find his wife fascinating. Why did she do it? Did she love him? What finally drove her completely crazy? I WANT TO KNOOOOOW.

Oh I know!! I meant to mention how utterly RIDICULOUS the special effects were in that episode. I was squinting from behind my hand in the scenes with Cartoon Doctor Elf, and his Surfing On The Light Of Human Love was laughably unclimactic. I mean, the idea of Martha walking the earth to tell everyone about the Doctor has appeal, but... well, they needed to sell it a lot better than they did.

I wondered if Mrs. Master was hopped up on painkillers or something, the way she was kind of swaying dazedly in the scenes after the one-year jump. I could believe being the wife of someone that crazy and that powerful - who hit on other women right in front of you - would make you homicidal in the end. It was definitely an interesting twist.

P.S. It's not the leather strappiness - it's the greaseball wig and haggard look I take issue with!
