hahaha, well, it's more like society deems bleeding to be a filthy, disgusting and all-around unpleasant thing. something to be embarrassed of, something guys can use to make womyn feel ashamed ('lol she's just pmsing', 'lol it smells like fish', so on). and i'll be the first to admit that there are certainly unpleasant bits to it, but i also think that a lot of the negativity surrounding menstruation is due to the hype around it. so we celebrate womanhood, make occasion to talk about all of this shit, and it's really, really awesome. it's a great opportunity to learn from other womyn.
so, no, it hasn't become cool. YET. =D

yea! well, the original purpose of a menarche party is when a girl gets her period and all of the womyn in her life have a party to celebrate her womynhood. but since the majority of us didn't get one, we do what we can. =D (of course, it goes without saying that i will have one for my daughter and all of my nieces).
