i was in the car with james, krystelle and cami on the way home just now. krystelle made some comment in passing about public restrooms, and a semi-joke about the girls who were raped in the restroom at lbcc last year. i pretty much told her it wasn't funny in the least attacking way that i could. then it went on to james saying, "i don't know how ( Read more... )

That would piss me off so fucking much, too. It's hard to change people's views, sometimes. The only thing you can do is use your knowledge, attempt to educate, and hope they hear what you say. Which is exactly what you did. In this case, it sounds like he's just not going to get it, and that's sad.

I think it's hard for men to understand rape, sometimes. Like you said, men get raped too, but rape is largely seen as a crime of men against women, and...I don't know, maybe it's hard for men to see how it's rape if you don't fight hard enough or don't fight at all. They don't get that if all you do is say "no" and they do it anyway, it's rape. And that's probably coming from an old-fashioned societal view, as well, going back to a time when everyone was less accepting of rape as a violent crime. Even today, these views are still around - that if you wear a miniskirt, you're asking for it, that if you walk alone at night you're asking for it, etc ( ... )

Wow just reading this upsets me. I think I would have started crying in the car. It boggles my mind that he really believes that. I'm so sorry you had to go through that and feel so helpless when he ignored your points which were completely true and valid.

I still just can't believe that...it seems so ignorant...

Wow.

WTF? He's a fucking asshole. i am sorry if he is your friend, but hearing something like this from a man would make me spit at him, no matter who it is, even if it was my best friend. Those thoughts are the thoughts that make men go and rape a woman and then later on in front of a judge say "but she wanted it.." FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!
-hugs tightly-

Aboslute fucking moron he is.

Sorry for cursing so much, it just really gets me up the wall something like this.

Sadly, we all know a good majority think like him. In a sense, it is right in thinking- not that someone can 'let themselves get raped' but that there is something that can be done. But that is just pretty well a lip-service thing; anyone caught in the situation is more likely to react in a 'deer caught in the headlights' manner. Sadly that's the problem with these ignorant thinkings. Should he be raped, he'd definitely have a better understanding but as always its one of those things you wish to have happen so the person would have a better idea but something you wouldn't want to wish on a enemy ( ... )

Wow, that is...wow. I would have gotten insanely frustrated if I was in your situation. It's a shame that people still think like this...

I can't even put adequate words to what I'm feeling right now...ugh
