Hi. I haven't used lj in a long time. I mainly used it so my dad could read about my thoughts and he died suddenly in September.. So I just saw no reason. But I remembered how kind and helpful you all were years ago when I had some question, so I thought I'd turn here now. I'm getting a copper IUD inserted tomorrow and very, very scared. I’m getting my second copper iud inserted later in the month. I had my last one for 5 years with virtually no problems. It's made my life a lot easier because i don't need to worry about contraception. I do not use condoms with my partner and i've never been less scared of pregnancy.

My dr inserted the iud without much help. It wasreally painful for a few seconds and i was crampy the rest of the day (imagine muscles contracting in your lower abdomen). I got the iud inserted during my period, so i was bleeding but was told to use pads for at least this cycle. I then switfhed back to tampons and nowadays i use a menstrual cup without any complications. I was also told to hold back on piv for two weeks.

My period is a little heavier but idk if it's just normal for my body since i was on hormonal bc for 6+ yesrs before making thr switch and i think the pill made my periods lighter.

Best of luck!

I had a Paraguard inserted when I was 6 weeks post partum. It was, hands down, THE BEST birth control option I have ever used. It was like an intense pap smear having it inserted. That strange, scrappy, crampy like feeling, but totally manageable. I did take 800mg Advil prior to the appointment as was advised, but I don't know that that was really necessary. I did have some minor cramping for month or so while it settled in. My periods were a tad heavier for a couple of years, but not that I'm 8 years in to it they're what they were before. My cramps stayed about the same for each cycle. I seriously loved mine, and would be getting another one if I still had my uterus!
