Tadaaaa--!!
Gongen aka Tokugawa Ieyasu! Arrives!
Welcome Tono! I've been waiting for you!
First time purchasing a
Chara Forme series, so thought i'd make some notes.
****Photos are by my very normal handheld digital camera, +taken at different times of the day. Do not use as too accurate a color + standard indicator.
*Links are for reference, not recommendations of where to buy.
Chara Forme is a new deforme figures series by the maker
Empty.
Empty seeme relatively new to figures scene. I only knew of their
D4 rubber strap series.
Their products say "Maker:Empty, Selling Agency:Union Creative". So looks like they're part of
Union Creative, which also has
Kaiyodo (
Revoltech action figure series, super precise trading figures),
Sentinel (collectables, scale figures).
So far Chara Formes are not too often seen on the major market. At our store the
Tokyo Ghoul Kaneki one will the first and so far only one we'll have. They're making more, so we might see more of them soon.
From here on this will be about Ieyasu --*other Chara Formes may be different.
① Collectable, not action figure
What I can say is, this is basically a deforme collectable figure, not an action figure. The only movable part is his neck, nothing else. His neck is a movable joint, so you turn and pose to a certain extent.
The head is "switchable" with other company lines, in that you can place Chara Forme heads on Nendoroids. The opposite can't be done though -Nendo joint is too wide.
Ieyasu on
Kyon body. Hopefully you can see that his head's basically just sitting on the body.
② No interchangeable parts
To confess I was a little reluctant at first, since even though the price is slightly lower compared to other deforme action figures, there aren't any interchangeable or extra parts. But dudettes, it's IEYASU. Price was reasonable, so I went for it.
AND THE RESULT, LOOKS GREAT. Details, expression, pose, all SPOT-ON.
In other words, whether it's worth the price or not ---IMO yes. The painting job is clean, the details are precise, none of molding's oddly warped. The price isn't completely unreasonable --similar size stand-alone figures from small companies can very easily go much higher.
Be aware though, I wouldn't be surprised if this gets sold as "Nendoroids" on ebay (since basically chibi deforme figures from every other company has been listed like so 70% of the time on purpose).
Bluntly speaking, probably because he's not an action figure, the figure quality is really good. Instead of sacrificing the look and adding stuff, they chose to focus on quality. (*amateur personal opinion)
There are other makers that went for action play-ability and more than visual quality. (*cough)
③ Size comparisons
Smaller than Nendoroids, (looks?) (possibly?) closer to
Chibi-arts(scale easier to see with Nendoroids since the body proportions are more similar)
(danggg iiiit Ojisan, are you hard to keep still, stop fallinggg (=_=;))
With Sengoku Basara Nendoroids
(Yukimura's head is huge though,
Masamune-sama with his helmet)
Might be more reasonable to compare it to similar fixed figure
Kyun-Chara (
Banpresto).
(But keep in mind,
Kyun-Charas are made to be crane-game-prizes, not specifically as major market figures, so their quality isn't meant to be as precise)(tho there are so many cases where prizes are better than scale -/wooop sidetracked)
He was basically the same size as
TMR, which was on the smaller-side of Nendoroids probably on purpose.
So, along with
Michael and
TMR
④ About the base
The hole on
his leg was a too tiny to bold him to the base.
*If you ever find this happen to you NEVER try and squeeze it in! You'll result in either breaking the base joint or cracking the base itself
Easily solved by making the hole wider with a screwdriver. Now he's really stable. Another plus of not being an action figure. Hopefully Empty'll work a little on this to make things easier.
And there we have it!
