In the past few days several people have told me UU quotes that seemed so simple that it seemed like anyone could have said them. Why attribute them to a Unitarian, Universalist, or UU? the rule of thumb for which Unitarian and Universalist Congregation was closer to Christianity from the 1910s to 1940s, is how close they were to the Atlantic Ocean. East Coast = more Christian; mid-west = less Christian; South = more Christian. I confess that I have no knowledge of congregations west of the Mississippi in theological orientation. The official Universalist newspaper was the Christian Leader up to 1953, when it became the Universalist Leader; and the official Unitarian newspaper was the Christian Register up to 1957, when i t became the Unitarian Register.

I found this quote attributed to Thomas Whittemore, Universalist who was born much earlier so probably said it first, but my guess is that it's probably been a saying people have used for centuries.
