So I need a little help.

These days, I have no faith in my ability to play Inara well, or even averagely, which is why I haven't been. Nor do I have any idea how to fix this problem, short of dropping her and letting someone else pick her up. I really hate to do that before having made any kind of real effort to FIX the problems, though ( Read more... )

Oh, lj. If you won't let me see a screened comment, how can I respond to it?

In light of what you've just told me, I suggest going back to your app and early threads and working out why you wanted to play Inara and if those reasons still hold for you. If they do, then without a doubt it's worth fixing her. If you're only playing her because you don't want to drop, then I have a feeling that fixing her will always seem too difficult.

I personally hope you keep her around -- she's quirky and different and brings something unique to camp. If nothing else, I suggest a sort of deus ex machina -- if it wouldn't distress your canon mates, you could deage Inara to before she meets them, and see what sort of relationships she forms in camp then. Or just set yourself a goal of talking to one new person/non-canon person everyday/time you thread with Mal.

Good luck!

Sorry, it's unscreening your comments when I reply; I didn't realize if I rescreened, you couldn't see 'em.

well, I liked her. I like her. I like her because she's classy but has sex for money and yet somehow makes it seem like it's not a trashy thing to do and she's running around with the Serenity gang and you'd think she wouldn't fit in with them, but she fits in with them so well that when she's not there, something's missing. And I like having a character who likes people but isn't a godmoder (DEATH) and back when I first had her, I really, really loved playing her ( ... )

I actually have a lot to say, having been in a similar situation myself with Rosalyn about a year ago. I was just wondering if you'd prefer I emailed you?
