It had been, as far as Archie was concerned, relatively easy to get Horatio and William to go exploring in one of the temples with him. They both felt as if Archie would get into trouble more often than not (which he may on occasion agree with), and he was glad for the company ( Read more... )

Horatio glanced up (and up and up) at the Temple, whose stone facade was dark and intricately carved and more than a little foreboding.

"Ah," he said, wondering if his own pack was heavy enough to excuse a lingering rest outside. "Are you quite sure we ought to go in there?"

"I'm damned well not," Bush murmured under his breath, his own gaze following Horatio's up the face of the temple. He had objected to the idea from the beginning, but that had not stopped him from joining along - to keep the other two from getting into too much trouble, or so he told himself.

"Not very welcoming, is it now?"

"Other people have," Archie insisted, and he flipped on the torch someone had showed him how to use. As he stepped forward and made his way through the opening, Archie turned around to face the others. "Children have explored this temple. It's quite safe."

Archie neglected to mention that the last part was his own optimism, which rarely suffered. "Children, gentlemen."

"Oh, well, if children do it..." said Horatio, letting the statement hang. He happened to know a good many intrepid children, who, while charming, were not often to be trusted with their own safety.

He looked to William. "What do you say, Mr. Bush? Are we to be goaded?"
