[The video feed turns on to show the face of a slightly surprised Meowth, who apparently turned it on by accident as it fiddled with its trainer's fallen Gear. But there aren't any Pokémon here I can ride, and there really isn't anywhere I can walk to... Dude, I don't wanna be stuck here forever.

Because there aren't any other towns within walking distance. To get to the closest one I'd have to go through this "Ice Path" place, which doesn't sound very safe.

I'm afraid you'd have to walk to travel here. Eventually you may be able to catch a Pokémon you could ride.

It's... kind of embarrassing to admit, but the closest town is really, really far away, and I don't really feel safe walking such a long distance. And I'd have to go through this dangerous place.

[Not to mention Blackthorn City doesn't look so great, either, from what he's read about it. Why couldn't he have started in Goldenrod?]

A loan? But I'd rather not have to deal with the debt afterwards... I'm not exactly made of money anymore. And a lot of loan places are really shady, you know.

Unless you can find one of those Onix things in the cave to the west, you'll have to walk.

[The Commander studies the feed carefully, with his mask hiding any sort of emotion or expression. Best to be as subtle as he could in case this guy wasn't a Grunt.]

There are other methods of travel from Mahogany Town, but they're...unavailable at the moment.
