Well, both, I guess. I mean, your Pokémon looked good, but that's not much without a good trainer, right?

I don't know, they seem pretty capable. Sometimes I wonder if they really need trainers at all.

[ saw it all happen on camera, now to pester him in person! ]

Ugh, if I see one more bug, I swear I'm gonna lose it.

[ hey man, he's lowering the bug population just for you. well sort of. he's making the bug population faint, let's leave it at that. ]

You really don't like them, huh...

Are you kidding?

[ she places a hand on her hip ]

After what just happened, I'd be surprised if anyone could.

[ that didn't stop her from catching a yanma, though.... mainly because it decided it liked her after everything calmed down and just never left. ]

That was... different, I think. Something was wrong with them.

[ he caught one too, man. it was all beat up and helpless, he had to take care of it because he's a bleeding heart like that. so he was all (woot) and leveled it once by accident and then Yanmega happened. ]

It's not always an option, so I want the entire team prepared for a difficult fight. But it's true, I don't think I would have managed nearly as well during that... fit those bug Pokémon were having without Benji.

[ figures it out anyway, he's still not quite over the whole but she's dead thing. ]

I'm not sure what else there is to do as a trainer outside of becoming stronger.

For now, at least. When she's got more energy I'm not usually so lucky.

[Naoki is roaming outside of Cherrygrove (what? training a little before heading to Violet is good, right? despite his reservations...) and pauses so that he can watch.

Oh, so that's the right way to battle. He more or less lets Shisa do her thing. Said Houndour is wagging her tail (happy to be out and about) and stopping at his heels. And in a moment,] Ah, that was really good! [way better than Naoki's been doing, sob]

[ he's learned through trial and error, so the compliment is more of a relief than flattering to him, really. ]

Thank you. A Caterpie isn't the most challenging opponent, but every little bit counts.

[Naoki nods his understanding to that, walking a bit closer and pausing.]

I've been, er, figuring out how to battle and everything. Still feels like she knows way more than me. [His head tilts to indicate his Houndour, whose attention seems to have been caught by a particularly interesting leaf.]

It's in their nature, I think. I can show you a little, if you want.

[ retracting Rita, he reaches for a different Pokéball, prepared to send out his next team member if he needs to. the more training, the better! ]

Although, I mostly learned through trial and error, so I don't know if I'm the best teacher...

[ AKA: I don't exactly know what I'm doing, either. ]
