-Okay! Finish them off with a bite!

[ an epic battle is taking place just outside of Cherrygrove! an epic battle between Suzaku's Meowth and the most difficult, ferocious opponent their team has ever faced! the camera catches Rita leaping, mouth wide open, off-screen and biting into something with a crunch. and once the view shifts, its ( Read more... )

[Naoki is roaming outside of Cherrygrove (what? training a little before heading to Violet is good, right? despite his reservations...) and pauses so that he can watch.

Oh, so that's the right way to battle. He more or less lets Shisa do her thing. Said Houndour is wagging her tail (happy to be out and about) and stopping at his heels. And in a moment,] Ah, that was really good! [way better than Naoki's been doing, sob]

[ he's learned through trial and error, so the compliment is more of a relief than flattering to him, really. ]

Thank you. A Caterpie isn't the most challenging opponent, but every little bit counts.

[Naoki nods his understanding to that, walking a bit closer and pausing.]

I've been, er, figuring out how to battle and everything. Still feels like she knows way more than me. [His head tilts to indicate his Houndour, whose attention seems to have been caught by a particularly interesting leaf.]

It's in their nature, I think. I can show you a little, if you want.

[ retracting Rita, he reaches for a different Pokéball, prepared to send out his next team member if he needs to. the more training, the better! ]

Although, I mostly learned through trial and error, so I don't know if I'm the best teacher...

[ AKA: I don't exactly know what I'm doing, either. ]

[Naoki seems to perk up slightly at that, watching curiously.]

I'd be grateful for anything you could show me! [He grins. Any advice is good advice...or something like that.]

[ the blind leading the blind isn't exactly a good thing, but alas. at least he's general: ]

Alright. If I weaken it, you can catch whatever comes out, if you want.

Ah--

[Naoki nods firmly after a moment.] All right! [This is at least a learning experience, he thinks. He's been getting better with the 'aaah making them fiiight D8' thing lately.]

Okay. Ready?

[ marches out into the grass! 'sup to you what pops out, since Suzaku's basically going to set it up for Naoki to catch. \o\ lots of bug 'mons on Route 30. ]

Ready!

[/o/ It doesn't take long until a Weedle comes wriggling out of the grass toward them.]

[ Weedle! you are no match for Suzaku's Growlithe. sending him out, Benji leaps into action without a second's hesitation. ]

The idea is to weaken the other Pokemon just enough so that it can't burst out of the Pokeball when you throw it. Benji, use Bite!

[ and much like his Meowth, Benji rushes in and clamps his teeth down on that Weedle, stunning it. he's a little overpowered, just that was enough to bring it down to a pretty shabby state. ]

Ordinarily it'd go a little quicker... ah, but you could probably try catching it now.

Gotcha...

[Naoki watches intently. Orders, huh? He can do that...he thinks. When Suzaku speaks again, he snaps back into it, fumbling in his pocket for one of his pokéballs. He snags one and lobs it at the Weedle, pausing to address the other as it disappears into the ball and said ball starts to wiggle slightly.]

They really don't mind fighting, do they? [It's thoughtful and the pokéball at last stills with a low pinging sound. Naoki brightens, pleased.]

I'm not sure. So far, my team has been really eager to train, and I think the wild Pokemon that actually show their faces must be the same way.

[ Benji is running circles around that Pokeball, not hyper, just vigilant (better not pop out of there, you worm, you...). and when it stills, he lets out a cursory Grrrrowl!, tail wagging. ]

That's all there is to it.

Yeah--Shisa's been all but dragging me into fights. Same with Ted's Dratini...

[Said Houndour trots toward Benji and the Pokéball, sniffing at it interestedly.] Not so hard, after all...though this' the first time I've seen someone. Thanks!

[He almost goes to bow but pauses, blinking.] Oh! My name's Naoki Kashima. Sorry about that.

Suzaku Kururugi. Nice to meet you.

[ if the Japan of his world hadn't been a subjugated mess for so long, he'd be bowing, too. as it is, he's not the handshake type either, so that just leaves standing there stiffly, although he does look a little less serious than he would normally. he likes teaching, apparently. ]

It's no problem at all. I'm still very new to it, too, so it doesn't always go quite as smoothly, but the basics are generally the same. You might want to study a little on type advantages, though. They can come in handy during a tough fight.

Nice to meet you too, Kururugi-san.

[Naoki seems to perk up slightly. Weaknesses are something he's familiar with--he had his own when he was the demi-fiend, after all. Goodness knows how much he had to exploit them when fighting particular demons.]

Type advantages... [It's about here Shisa goes picking up the Pokéball in her jaws, prancing around as though she got it all on her own.] Is anything about them in that guide we got?

There is a little bit on it, yes. It explains the various types and what their strengths and weaknesses are. Although it's not fully detailed, it's enough to start with. Asking around on the Pokegear will probably help explain the rest.

[ even though he personally hasn't preferred to ask for help when he gets confused. asking questions when the opportunity presents itself, sure, but otherwise... ]
