I don't know, on the one hand, it looks like she's not very bright and this will bring a certain victory to the Democrats next time. And I'm certain the moderate Republicans will be making her life very difficult, in a public way.
But on the other, the extreme right will come out to play, and although they are amusing for the crazy, they do get a bit much after a while.
I'm a woman, a feminist, non-American - and the thought of Sarah Palin having more power then she does chills me.
It sounds like some people think so. Whether the rumors about Palin are true or not, the damning leaks are being aired through the right-wing media outlets like Fox News. Palin is getting the same treatment that is normally used on the enemies of the GOP, but this time they are demonizing/swiftboating/scapegoating one of the their own. That tells me the highest powers within the GOP are not pleased with Palin. Palin's career in the GOP will go nowhere without their support. So unless she does something amazing to win back their love, it's game over.
Well that depends on which side you're on, I've seen a helluva (more then makes me comfortable) GOP LJ users who think Palin is political genius and it was McCain who cost them - and they are already uploading the Palin icons for 2012. (and most of them are women).
But realistically, I think Palin was more of a negative for McCain.
I personally know three people who would have voted for McCain but Palin made them switch their vote. One of the was a Hillary support, the other two were Republican men. All of them thought Palin was an embarrassment. They disliked her more than they disliked Obama. So for them, Obama was "the lesser of two evils."
This may have been said, but the emerging infighting within the republican party while she was running is probably won't help her even if she tries to run. The woman must have economic backing from some important people to get up there, and with the recent openning of mouths and her reaction to loosing, I cannot imagine her being able to run a successful campaign, be the successful nomination for the Republican party, and then be elected. The odds are too far against her.
But, on the other hand, she maybe able to run for a Congressional seat due to her popularity in Alaska...that would make Congress interesting.
Totally agree with you on the financial backing...I seriously doubt she would be able to raise enough to be a serious contender for an upcoming Presidential race, especially now. The fact that large amts of $ is required to run saddens me, but in this case I think it's a Very Good Thing. ;-) (And not to mention I think she'd absolutely implode when it came to being truly challenged on the campaign trail.)
Needless to say, I'm disappointed that the Republicans couldn't find (or didn't bother to choose) a better female VP candidate in this instance.
I would be interested to see what Palin could do if they really just turned her loose.
Let her spend the next 4 years talking to every reporter, answering the hard questions, and fully spell out her platform. Maybe hold 50-100 town hall meetings between now and then, so that the people can ask her questions and really get to know her.
I am interested in hearing detailed reports from her on energy, special needs children, being a working mom, and teen pregnancy.
What are her positions on separation of church and state, constitutional law, same sex marriage, immigration, the economy, internet neutrality, foreign affairs, and evolution?
