Prime-time President.

Tonight marks Obama's 30 minute's of prime-time fame.  Are you watching it?  What do you want to see from him? For a candidate who has had trouble with his "celebrity" status, could this devolve into an "E! True Hollywood Story"?

I'd like to see him take this opportunity to debunk all the myths that the conservatives have been perpetuating about him, like the myth that he's Muslim, or that he wasn't born in America, or that he's a terrorist. If I never hear another person say "I don't trust him cause he's a Muslim" it'll be too soon.

People talk about not "knowing" him (we don't know where he came from, etc), so I hope he takes this opportunity to really introduce himself.

It could very well take on the format of an E! special, but the content is worth looking at. It won't be a paparazzi expose', if that was the point of the question.

I don't think the people who have been convinced about the sinister aspects of the Obama myth will listen to anything the man has to say. They'll simply say, "Yeah, right!" They think he's a liar. It's the standard fundamentalist mind trap.

There's a degree to which debunking myths tends to perpetuate them. If someone goes around saying: "I'm not a Muslim." the brain tends to not process the "not", and attaches the concept "Muslim" with that person.

I think it's a better tactic for Obama to ignore false accusations and instead talk about his background and values in a positive light.

I also think this is ultimately why Obama will win. He is focused on what he is, what he stands for, and what the American people want. On the other hand, McCain has been focusing more on what he thinks Obama is, less on himself, and McCain has been trying to get people to be afraid of Obama instead of wanting to vote for him for positive reasons.

I have to agree. I've noticed that McCain has become so much less about substance. He's more about "Look at that guy, measuring the drapes! We're gonna win! La de da!" And Obama's more about "We're gonna change the world, and here's how!"

What I was hoping for as far as debunking myths was more like telling people where he came from and who he is (the truth) rather than battling the lies. Which I think he's done pretty well.

I really hope, though, that no one starts using his grandmother as fodder. I could just see some bitter Republican start saying "Oh well he got sympathy points for his g-ma dying, it was all a scam!!".... That's when I'd start punching someone...

i'm worried a bit, yeah. i hope it's more fdr fireside chat and less obamercial.
i want him to put on some marvin gaye and seduce the hell out of some undecided voters. i want him to take our hands, collectively, and say, "i got this". i want him to take off the suit jacket and yell, "i am sick and tired of these m*therf*cking neo-cons in this m*therf*cking government!"

Yes, it would be wonderful if he could debunk the rumors about him.
Like his association with ACORN. And Ayers. And Wright. And Renzlo, Farrakhan, Robert Malley, Johnson.
Or his policies that, essentially and inevitably, are socialistic.
Or how he thinks it is perfectly fine to stab a newborn baby in the brain with scissors…

Oops… the only way he can debunk these rumors is by lying. Shoot.

I hope that he clears the air on some of the things that the McCain campaign is distorting or simply lying about. He should clearly lay out his plans and explain them with care so no more confusion about tax breaks etc. remain. He should just let people know the truth about what he stands for and of who he is. Too many people buy into that bogus "Obama is a terrorist" bull that Palin is spouting off. He ought to tell people that they should listen to him and not McCain or Palin if they really want to know him and what he wants, values, and envisions for America's future. It's all good too!

He probably shouldn't attack McCain too much though if at all, that might irritate some people. He wants to win them over, not turn them off. ButI'm not as worried that since his campaign hasn't been nearly as negative as McCains anyway.

He needs to be clear, understandable and down to earth.

Me watch it? Of course I will!
