Tell me the truth, you lazy bums....

Are you voting?  For real, for real?

I just had lobster in Boston (Yes, I'm rubbing it in! It was deliciously buttery, in case you were curious.) with a McCain supporter from New York.  He said, "My vote doesn't really count, so why make the effort?" I challenged him with the old Gore/Bush popular/electoral debate: shouldn't you want your ( Read more... )

I live in a firmly red state and will vote for McCain. Yes, he is projected to win my state, but I'd feel very bad if I didn't vote because I felt my vote didn't count, and he lost.

Everyone needs to vote, regardless of whether their state is a "given". If too many people stay home because they don't feel they count, the state could be carried by the other candidate.

What's one good reason for voting for McCain?

I replied to the person you replied to with this:

For me, it's a lot more about the issues than anything else. I'm hesitant to give you my reasons for wanting to vote for McCain though, because I like when my opinion is respected, and in most cases like this, it isn't.

(I say this because usually when people ask, they're looking to argue, and that's not really what I want.)

I voted today. I do feel like it is a lost cause but yet I know that voting is the right thing to do. I don't need to know that my single vote is a tie breaker.

There's a chance in Georgia. Not much of one, but yours is one vote closer.

That NY guy is going to be one of the loudest complainers, no matter who wins and no matter how things turn out in the country.

I will be voting as early as possible. There is no such thing as an "unimportant" vote.

I'm voting for Obama, even though I live in Illinois. I believe that if you don't put the effort into voting, you don't have any grounds to complain about the administration for the next four years.

Besides, there's lots of local elections and referendums on the ballot where my vote is is a larger drop in the bucket.

This has always been my philosophy, no matter how red my state may be - which is slowly turning blue, and that's very strange. Also a good point about the presidential elections not being the be all/end all of voting.

It is absolutely important to vote, even if you live in a very red or blue state. The reason is for all the down ballot races that you need to influence. I live in Texas, but there are a lot of competitive races down ballot that need my Democratic vote.

Texas girl here too. I am going to vote Obama and try not to think about its futility here. I've never voted a straight ticket in my life.
