My Way

[After the mission, Mao is going over the manual for the lambda driver while the repair crew is working on the Falke. The "manual" barely deserves the name, as it's incredibly vague. The technology involved is barely understood ( Read more... )

Give it to me. I'll figure it out.

That sounds suspiciously like you don't think I can do it.

I can make myself angry at anyone and do it that way.

I'm sure you could. Unfortunately my current assignment with MITHRIL is to figure out how to make it work for me.

Well... that explains that. Rage powering the Lambda Driver makes Anguis basically the perfect user.

Yeah, but it doesn't work very well for me.

Hmm... well what if you tried inwardly directed emotion? You know, anger that is directed at the situation or you rather than a specific person? That sounds like it might work as a more controlled version of what you just described.

I don't want to rely on anger at all. An angry mind can't make clear tactical decisions.

It won't accept a more general "I really want to kick this guy's ass" sort of rage?

Partial credit.

If it'll give high enough output while still letting you remain in control, wouldn't that still be pretty good?

It'd be pretty good, and Jehuty would be pretty good machine without the zero-shift.

Hm...

Personal anger's the easiest way to use the T-Link System, too, which is another reason why Anguis refused to go down for so long this time. But, well, especially ever since getting RyuKoOh, I've gotten a lot of success out of just focusing my senses...m-maybe that could work for the Lambda Driver too?

Personal focus instead of personal anger? That sounds much more up my alley.

This probably sounds weird coming from me, but kendo's actually a really big help for learning to center yourself. I use it more for that than for actual learning how to fight with a sword now.

[Thoughtfully] I learned how to fight in the marines, but that was less on the emotional control and more on killing people efficiently.

Using anger to power a machine. It seems like such a device would be prone to going out of control.

Not many people really understand how it works. The gist of the manual is "Here's the things that have worked for other people. Find something that works for you."

That is a very poorly written manual?

Is your organization a private or government faction?

Imagine taking a guy from world war two and sticking him in a mobile suit and telling him to make a manual from trial and error. We're kind of stumbling in the dark here.
