I finally got around to buying myself a copy of Good Omens the other day, along with the first volume of Discworld. :3 I think I've been trying to read Good Omens for a few years now and just never bothered getting around to it for whatever reason... I've been kind of on a Neil Gaiman kick right now and it was recommended to me that I read Good ( Read more... )

neil gaiman, death note, novels, manga, good omens

*agrees with you on the Near stuff*

It was like the kid just knew everything... it just wasn't fun anymore. D:

*sigh* At least the Raito/L arc was oooooh so meltingly good ;o;

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so! It really wasn't fun that Near just... figured out everything immediately. It wasn't realistic enough! ;o;

But yes... I suppose we will always have Paris the Light/L arc... XD

I too agree with you about Near. What made Death Note just so good when I first started reading it was the utter complexity of the plot and of the interaction between Raito and L. It made my brain ache thinking around everything. After L died and Near took over, I didn't need to think nearly as hard to keep up with everything. Near basically just laid everything down flat, and while I appreciated someone figuring Kira out, the way he did it just didn't seem possible for the amount of resources he had. =/

Yeah, you said exactly what I've been thinking. ^^ Light/L was like... unbelievable! The twists the story kept taking at that point were just so amazing because Light and L were always one step ahead of each other. Near seemed like he was always one step ahead of Light, which just sucked. Took away the thrill of it all. The story was still good, but just not as good as it was when L was in the picture. :X

I haven't read Good Omens yet. We own it, but it's... somewhere and I haven't been able to find it. The footnotes is a Terry Pratchett thing (as you'll find). I hope you enjoy Discworld. The first couple books aren't my favorites, but it's best to start at the beginning. I think you'll be joining the masses of Vimes fangirls soon. :P The world needs more Discworld fans!

Well, most of my friends who are more into the fantasy reading sort of stuff have always gone on about Discworld, so I really have been meaning to pick it up for some time now. I think the footnotes are brilliant, so I'm glad that Pratchett does it in a lot of his books. X3

I've had Good Omens at my parent's house for the longest time but I never really got around to reading it. I don't know why, because it was always just sitting there ready for me but I just always ended up getting preoccupied I guess. But either way, I'm reading it now, so it's all good. XD

Really? I may be biased since I'm not a big fan of Light, but I thought the way it ended was fitting for him. He isn't a god or some higher power, just a human like everyone else. And Near finding out everything didn't seem too cheap for me but I can see why anyone else would think so. L did leave a HUGE pile of clues for him. :)

You're right, it was a fitting way of showing how Light is just as human as anyone else is, which is why I didn't dislike the ending completely. ^^ I guess I was just a little disappointed because I started thinking so highly of him and it really brought me down to see him squirming and pleading. I gotta say though, the part where he cracks and starts laughing maniacally just made me giggle. XD

It wasn's the worst ending ever, but it just didn't leave me completely satisfied, you know? :9

Oh totally, it definitely felt lacking somewhere. I would've liked to see what happened to Light after death too even if Heaven and Hell doesn't exist.

Oh, yeah!! That's another thing I wondered... what happened to Light? I would normally just assume he'd die and that's the end of it but it'd be interesting if he got taken to a different place, like the world of the Shinigami or something. It's really bugging me, not knowing what happened to Ryuk when all was said and done. :X

It must be something in the air. I've been on a Neil Gaiman kick recently too. Any book that I really want to read is probably by him :D Do you have American Gods? If you don't you can borrow my copy once you've read Good Omens if ya want.

I don't have American Gods yet but I'm most likely just going to go out and buy it to complete my little collection of his novels. XD Some guy in my program recommended that I read Good Omens first before reading American Gods; I don't really know why but I figured it was an alright idea anyway. :D I'm not sure what to expect with it but knowing Gaiman, it's bound to be delightful. XD

Thanks for the offer! :D <3
