I'm readin'!

I finally got around to buying myself a copy of Good Omens the other day, along with the first volume of Discworld. :3 I think I've been trying to read Good Omens for a few years now and just never bothered getting around to it for whatever reason... I've been kind of on a Neil Gaiman kick right now and it was recommended to me that I read Good Omens before reading American Gods. :9 So I guess we know which book I'll be reading after these two... I can't wait until Anansi Boys is in paperback, then I'll probably have ready everything but Smoke and Mirrors. :B

So far, Good Omens is a pretty fun read... :3 I really enjoy it, even though I'm not altogether very far into the story at this point. I'm liking Crowley and Aziraphale quite a bit and the writing style is great. I'm loving the footnotes at the bottom of the pages. XD Really makes the read a unique experience!

...Speaking of reading, ... and talk about a weak ending. I was really hoping that Light would come out victorious in the end. I'm so disappointed that he just ended up freaking out like a coward but I don't totally disagree with it as being a fitting ending. I think the thing that's really bugging me here is Near. I loved Death Note to pieces but after L died and Near and Mello came into the picture, it took me a really long time to get into the story.

Once I finally got into it, I started liking it more. And although I do like Near, I find him to be too... I don't know, omnipotent? It just seems as if the author got far too lazy and just decided that Near would figure out every absolute detail of Light's plan without question. Some of the stuff he came up with was way too contrived; it just seems impossible that he'd be able to conclude things so easily. :P Especially with the ending of the story. L had more of a flaw... he wasn't stupid but he didn't just know everything immediately either. I hated the feeling I got at the end of the story, of it seeming that Near knew everything all the time. It just isn't realistic. I don't know if anyone else shares the same opinion as me but I hope I'm not being too confusing in what I'm trying to say here. ^^;

I also wish they said more about the other characters in the story, like Misa and Ryuk. Like everyone else out there, I seriously don't know what to make of the girl leading the Kira cult on the very last pages. I thought immediately it was Misa until I saw her face... then I started to get my doubts because she doesn't really look like Misa. And it seems as if she has The Eyes. I guess if I had to make any conclusion, I'd say that another notebook made it's way down to earth and Misa happened to stumble on it and after touching it, got her memories and her Eyes back. I think I'd have to agree with what most people are saying about her looking different; that the shock of learning about Light's death just changed her so much that she toned down her wardrobe to something more sombre (then again, she was already gothic looking, so you'd think she'd just get even more gothic unless his death would have just effected her so much XD). Who knows? I hope something is said about it to give us a bit more conclusion but I guess it's kind of fun to keep coming up with different ideas like this. :3

I have been keeping up with other series too, but I'll write about them later as I'm already running a bit late for work, from writing this. XD;
