[PSA] Fake PayPal e-mail - phishing alert!!!

I've been seeing an increasing number of these lately, and I figured if I'm getting them, then others might be, as well. Consider this a friendly reminder to always be wary of e-mail purporting to be from a legitimate source, but that wants you to log in and update your account information "or else!" I tell my users here at least once a month: You will _NEVER_ get an e-mail from a legitimate business or organization you have an account with which provides a link to log into a service. Never. Ever. If you get one, it is not legitimate. If you are so very compelled to connect to that service, close the e-mail, and open internet explorer and type in the address to the site. DO NOT type in the link you were given.

Despite this, I had someone just Friday call me to his office to show me the latest phishing he got. I said "Yup that's a phishing attempt, you just want to..."

Then he clicked the link.

"Uhm." I said, "you really need to not click the..."

Then he clicked the link on the page that came up.

"Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop clicking and listen."

They don't, they won't and they don't care. Teh intarweb will destroy them and the world will be a better place, just you wait and see.

Hmm. It's possible that anyone who would actually click on and enter their info from the link in a post like this is....well, natural selection is a good thing, in the end.
