I went in for a pedicure and french manicure on Sunday. It was good times, generally speaking, and I was pleased with the manicure. It lasted until this morning, and I've caught myself admiring my nails several times in the last few days. There's something alluring about the artificial perfection of it. The extreme of this can be found in Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I recommend it if you can get through all the "pretty" slang. It is a teen book and a great one to use when talking about body image and what can happen when society decides what is beautiful or acceptable for all.
