I have sent that link to my work mates. We have a ton of gold orb weavers here where I work. (I do work for an environmental education center, and our property is loaded with them.)
We have seen the webs catch the birds, but they usually release them.

I used to live on Markwell st, which is how I know that it's a quarter kilometre of spidery awesomeness. Some adventurous spider would web over the footpath about once or twice a week, and I wouldn't always spot the web in time...:( It's really hard to get that stuff out of your hair.
