Chapter Three
Only the moonlight outside his window illuminated the dark room as Kazuya held his still gaze on the moonlit floor. His hands remained bound, but he had learned to pay no heed to the scratches on his wrists nor to the bruises on his body.
He remained unmoving on the bed, legs close to himself as the memory of yesterday flashed before his eyes. His body shook convulsively at the reminder, a raw pang of pain pressing his side as he closed his eyes tightly shut. He had awoken this morning wishing he had never woken up at all. He was sore and bruised all over, it practically took him all his strength just to stand up.
Jin had violated him, stripping him bare of his pride and virtue. He had not seen Jin since that afternoon, and he didn't think he could manage to without trying to kill him. He had four days before Jin demanded for the full payment of his ransom from his father. Whether he got out of here or not, he would die trying to bring Jin down with him.
Gritting his teeth, Kazuya opened his eyes and fixed his cold gaze to the floor. A tear carelessly slipped down his cheek.
Slowly opening his eyes, Kazuya awoke to the sound of his door opening. Taguchi and Nakamaru, two of Jin's subordinates, stepped inside his room, wordlessly hauling him up from the bed.
Kazuya was too tired to complain as he was brought to his feet. His weary gaze fell to the doorway, his eyes flickering awake and livid at the sight of the man before him. Jin stood there, arms crossed, his face unreadable. He immediately tried to charge forward, but Taguchi took hold of his arms in a death grip, pressing on his bruises. Kazuya hissed in pain, but his furious gaze never left Jin.
"Good morning to you too, Kazuya-kun," The man drawled with a smirk. "Today's your lucky day."
Taguchi and Nakamaru began pushing Kazuya to the door. He paused before Jin along the way, murderously looking at him as Taguchi shoved him forward to continue. They proceeded down the corridor, Taguchi's firm grip still on his arm as Nakamaru led the way.
They soon arrived at a spacious holding room, where he saw several others of Jin's subordinates, and to his surprise, his father sitting on the long couch before him. The man immediately stood up, staring at his son's condition in horror.
"Kazuya!" The man cried. Jin's subordinate Ueda stood beside him, putting a firm hand on his shoulder when he tried to approach his son.
"Dad!" Kazuya shouted. Taguchi held him back in return, keeping him in place. Jin shortly followed into the room, emerging from the same corridor with his hands inside his pockets. Kazuya spitefully glared at him as the man walked past him.
"Yes, what a nice reunion. Touchy," Jin drawled, gingerly settling down on the black leather couch beside his father. "Shall we get down to business then?"
Kazuya's father uneasily sat down once more, his hands tense on his lap. He took out the briefcase from his side without another thought, placing it on top of the glass table before them. Kazuya stood in his stance with abated breath.
The man opened the briefcase, facing it to Jin. Crisp paper bills bundled by the ten thousands were inside it. "70 million yen, Akanishi. No more, no less."
Jin idly looked at the money before him and brought his unfazed gaze to the man once more.
"Please, Akanishi! I'm already giving you the money!" The man cried when Jin's face remained unyielding. He bent his head to his knees. "Please give me my son back!"
A short silence fell over the room. Kazuya gritted his teeth, fighting back the tears stinging his eyes.
"What else are you waiting for?! Isn't this what you want?!" The boy angrily shouted. Taguchi's hold grew more firmly behind him. "Just let me go already!"
Jin let out an exasperated sigh and lazily leaned back to his seat. "Taguchi, release him."
Taguchi stood up straighter. "Are you sure, Jin-sama?"
"Yes," Jin drawled, pensively looking back at the raw fury in Kazuya's eyes. "Before I change my mind."
"You're a fucking bastard," The boy spitefully snarled as Taguchi began undoing the ropes on his wrists. Another subordinate stepped forward, closing the briefcase and taking it away with a wave of Jin's hand. Ueda wordlessly ushered Kazuya's father to stand up.
"There now, that wasn't so hard," Jin smirked, rising from his seat as well. "I'm a simple man. It's easy to make me happy. Isn't that right, Kazuya-kun?"
"I'm going to kill you," Kazuya growled, his voice heavy with intent as Jin stood before him. Taguchi began pushing Kazuya once more, a firm hold still on his hands as his father followed suit on their way out of the room. Kazuya's indignant gaze never left Jin as he headed to the door.
Jin took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lit a stick, exhaling the smoke through his lips as his gaze remained at his departure.
Kazuya watched the maple tree shed a leaf outside the window as he closed his bag shut on top of his desk.
The classroom was already uninhabited as he remained standing by his table, quietly observing the scenery outside. It was a late Thursday afternoon in early October, the dismal skies blocking out the sun as darkness enveloped the empty classroom. Class had ended two hours ago and he had just returned to retrieve his notebook under his desk. Even from here he could hear Koda's off-key singing and the noisy chatter of his friends outside as Kazuya inwardly sighed. It was going to be another after-class karaoke affair.
It had been half a year since that day. He had never allowed anyone to know what had happened, not even his father, for he could never bear the pain and humiliation of it the second time around. He had told everyone at school that he had gone on vacation. His family had not heard from Akanishi Jin again, but he could never bring himself to forget and forgive him for all he had done. Six months had passed and subdued his anger, but his hatred for him remained the same.
They had never bothered to turn to the police. The Akanishi family was the head of the Triad in Shanghai and one of the most powerful in the country. Kazuya had sworn revenge, but now Jin was no more than a figment of his past that he just wanted to forget. He wanted no more of it. He just wanted to move on.
Slinging his bag over his shoulder with a sigh, Kazuya began to head out of the classroom. He soon arrived downstairs and saw his friends waiting for him outside.
"Kamenashi-kun!" Koda excitedly grinned. "Finally! What took you so long? We've been waiting here for ages, man."
"Sorry guys," Kazuya briefly smiled, scratching his head. "Hey, uh, look, something came up at home. I don't think I can go with you guys anymore."
"Ehh?" Motomiya from Class 3 pouted, childishly stomping her foot on the ground. "But you promised us you'd go with us this time!"
"Gomen ne, Miya-chan," he smiled, patting her nose. The girl immediately fell silent and blushed. "Next time, I promise."
"Oi, Kamenashi! That's unfair!" Nomura exclaimed. "You said you'd treat us out today! Man, I was really excited too! Come on, don't back out on us now!"
The rest of the group began to protest. Kazuya raised his hands in an attempt to appease them.
"Look, I'm really sorry guys," he laughed. A black car pulled over by the school gates. "See? That's my ride. Next time, I promise!"
The group groaned in unison as Kazuya waved at them and began making his way to the school's exit gates. He inwardly sighed in relief as he approached closer to his car. He opened the door, listlessly tossing his bag to his side before following suit inside the vehicle. He had only closed the door when he saw the man beside him, and felt his heart drop to his stomach.
"Greetings, Kazuya-kun," Jin smirked beside him. "It's been a while."
