Chapter One
Cracking one eye open, Kazuya winced at the bright overhead lamp above him and let out a low groan at the dull pain that shot up his arms. He momentarily closed his eyes again in disorientation, trying to ignore the sudden throbbing in his head. Everything around him was dim except for the lamp above his head and the smell of cigarettes in the air as he made out a thin wisp of smoke in the darkness.
He tried to move, only to realize he was bound in his place. He groaned again when he tried to move his arms behind his back, but it was to no avail. He didn't really know how he had ended up in such a situation. He didn't even know where he was.
"Feeling uncomfortable, Kazuya-kun?"
He immediately looked up at the sound of the voice. Despite the dimness in the room, he could make out the faint outline of a man in front of him when he narrowed his eyes.
"Who are you...?" Kazuya muttered in stupor. "Where the hell am I...?"
The man exhaled the smoke from his lips and put out the cigarette on the ashtray beside him. All the lights in the room suddenly flashed on, leaving Kazuya wincing at its brightness.
The man he vaguely remembered as Jin stood up from his seat, coat discarded on the table as he leaned by the desk in his long, white sleeves. Kazuya languidly looked around the room. It was an empty grey space save for a desk and two chairs.
"Oi," Kazuya tried to move in his chair once more when his vision began to clear. "What the hell's going on?"
"I wouldn't move too much if I were you," Jin said, approaching forward and looking down on him. "How are you feeling?"
Kazuya fought to struggle with the tie behind his back and winced at the growing pain. "Why the fuck am I tied to a chair?"
Jin glanced at his watch. "It's eight o'clock. Your father must've arrived from Shanghai by now."
"What about my dad?" Kazuya demanded, creasing his forehead. "Hey, why aren't you answering my question?"
"Shut up, kid. I'm going to make a call," Jin drawled, taking out the cellphone from his pocket. He dialed a number and placed it on the table, setting it on loudspeaker as a ringing sound began to reverberate in the room. Kazuya warily looked at him as Jin idly began pacing around, waiting for the other line to answer.
"Hello?" Came the distinct voice of Kazuya's father. Kazuya's eyes widened in surprise.
"Ah, Kamenashi-san, good evening," Jin graciously began with a smile. "This is Akanishi calling. How was your trip in Shanghai?"
The other line fell silent for several seconds. "Why are you calling, Mr. Akanishi?"
"Have you arrived home yet?" Jin asked, briefly averting his gaze to the other man before him. "Have you seen your son?"
"Dad!" Kazuya immediately shouted from his chair. "Dad, I'm here!"
"Kazuya!" The man exclaimed. "Akanishi, where are you? What is my son doing there?!"
"I would just like to remind you, Kamenashi-san," Jin said, leaning against the table again. "You are three months delayed in payment. We had an agreement."
"But my son!" The man stammered on the other line. "Please, I will pay you! Just don't involve my son in this!"
"70 million yen," Jin crossed his arms and faced Kazuya, who was now staring at the mobile in disbelief. "I'm a patient man, Kamenashi-san, but if you aren't going to pay soon, we're going to be in trouble."
"Please, Akanishi! I will pay! Just don't hurt my son!"
"Oh, please don't think of me that way. I'm still a good man," Jin chuckled on the phone. "I'm giving you two weeks. If you can't give back the money that you owe me, I am going to kill your son."
"Wait-!"
Jin ended the call without another word. Kazuya looked at him in horror.
Jin smirked at the expression on his face. "Didn't see this coming, did you?"
"What the hell..." Kazuya whispered in disbelief. "How the heck did my dad owe someone like you 70 million?!"
"Oh pardon me if I haven't fully introduced myself yet," Jin bowed in mock courtesy. "I am Ren Xi, but since we are here in Japan, I go by Akanishi Jin. I am one of your father's business associates in Shanghai."
"That’s not what I asked!" Kazuya spat out. "How did my dad end up owing you that much money?"
Jin languidly blinked at him. "I am from the Ren family, the head of the Triad in Shanghai."
"Triad?" The younger man repeated, his forehead creasing further. "Isn't that..."
"The Chinese mafia, yes," He nonchalantly shrugged.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Kazuya incredulously laughed. "Why would my dad have any dealings with the Chinese mafia?!"
"Because he needs the money?" Jin pursed his lips. "I can see where he's coming from. It's not easy to run a company, you know."
"But... what the fuck," Kazuya restlessly moved about in his seat. "I don't believe any of this bullshit!"
"Then don't," Jin shrugged again, taking out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lighting another stick. "It's either the money or your head in two weeks, kid."
"Let me go, you asshole!" Kazuya shouted as Jin turned on his heel and began to leave the room. "Let me go!!"
"You should get some shuteye," Jin muttered on his way to the door. "It's going to be a long night."
"Akanishi, you bastard!" Kazuya angrily yelled. He struggled to break free from his chair once more, but he remained bound to his seat. He gritted his teeth as the door slammed shut behind him.
"Shit," Kazuya hissed, throwing his head back in frustration.
He had to get out of here.
Leaning back to his seat, Jin had only been reading several documents in his hand when the door to his office opened. One of his subordinates, Taguchi, stepped inside the room, humbly bowing at his presence before proceeding.
"Jin-sama," The man began, pausing in front of his desk. "The boy is still refusing his food. He has not eaten anything for two days."
Jin tossed the documents to his desk. "Have you tried shoving it down his throat?"
"We have tried to apply force," Taguchi quietly said. "But he remains uncooperative."
Jin briefly sighed, putting a hand to his forehead and massaging his left temple. "Geez, what a troublesome kid. And you guys are as unreliable as ever. Do I always have to do everything here?"
"Please forgive us, Jin-sama," Taguchi bowed once more as Jin stood up and made his way to the door. Stepping out into the hallway, Jin walked down the corridor to the room where Kamenashi's son was being held captive. He opened the door and saw Kazuya on the floor, still bound behind his back with an untouched tray of food in front of him.
"I hear you haven't eaten anything in two days," Jin began, looking down on him. "Do you want to kill yourself?"
"I'd rather die than let you get a single cent from my dad's money!" Kazuya shouted, his gaze irate and defiant. Jin continued looking down on him with idle, half-lidded eyes.
Jin sighed. "You're an idiot."
Kazuya gritted his teeth. Jin looked at his sordid state on the floor and shook his head.
"You're starved and you stink," The man muttered. "What will your dad think? It'll make me look like I'm not taking good care of you."
"Go to hell!" Kazuya spitefully snarled. Jin threw a look at Taguchi from across the room. The man merely nodded and made his way over to Kazuya, hauling him up from the floor and dragging him to the door.
"Hey, what are you doing?!" Kazuya demanded as Jin began to follow suit behind them down the hallway. "Where are you taking me?!"
Taguchi kicked the door open to another room and roughly pushed Kazuya inside. It was the shower room, Kazuya realized as his face hit the cold marble floor. Jin leaned by the doorframe, arms crossed as Taguchi began unbuttoning Kazuya's shirt.
"What the fuck are you doing?!" Kazuya yelled, trying to kick the man away from him. "Don't touch me!"
"Stop complaining, kid," Jin drawled. "We're all men in here, aren't we?"
"I don't want to take a fucking shower!" Kazuya growled, still struggling on the floor. "Get your fucking hands off of me!"
Jin's gaze flickered over to the smooth leanness of Kazuya's body as soon as his shirt was removed from him. Taguchi forced Kazuya to stand up and began pushing him to the direction of the shower cubicle, where he turned on the faucet and shoved Kazuya to the running water.
"You know, suppose your old man can't pay me the money," Jin thoughtfully murmured as he continued observing the water drops streaming down Kazuya's body. "I can get it from you instead. You'll sell well with that body of yours."
"Go fuck yourself, you sick bastard!" Kazuya spat out, inwardly shivering at the feel of the cold water on his skin.
"Oh, don't get me wrong," Jin chuckled in amusement. "I don't swing that way."
"Taguchi," he said when Kazuya fell unresponsive in his contempt. "Make sure he eats something after he's cleaned up. Get the others to force his mouth open if you have to."
"Yes sir," Taguchi nodded. Jin leaned away from the bathroom door and began to make his way back to his office with a smirk.
Slamming a hand on the glass window, Kazuya's fingers clenched to a fist as he channeled his furious gaze to the evening Shanghai scenery before him.
It had been three days since he had been held captive by a man named Akanishi Jin. Up to now he still didn't want to believe that his father had been doing transactions with a man like him. The Chinese mafia of all people!
He didn't know what in the world his father had been doing for him to need that much money, but after all he had gone through these past few days, he didn't think he wanted to know anymore. He was already in Shanghai before he knew it, and despite everything, he knew that bastard Akanishi was a dangerous man. He had to be careful if he wanted a clean escape from this place. How he was going to return to Japan, he had no idea, but anywhere else didn't matter, as long as he got away from here.
They had moved him to a bigger room and removed the ropes from him, but Kazuya knew better than to be confident he could tackle his way out with just his hands. All the bastards here had guns on their waists, and although Jin told him he had two weeks, he knew his henchmen wouldn't hesitate shooting him to slow him down.
Gritting his teeth, Kazuya cursed Akanishi Jin in his mind. He would make that bastard pay for sure.
The door opened. His gaze turned livid as Jin stepped inside the room.
"Your father just called," Jin drawled, placing a hand inside his pocket. "It seems he's managed to round up about 25 million yen already. He might just actually make it."
"You didn't have to go this far," Kazuya growled. "If something happens to my dad, I'm going to kill you."
"Hey, I'm just reclaiming my debt," Jin shrugged. "I only want to make sure I get my money back."
"Well you can shove it up your ass when you get it," Kazuya snarled. "Just leave me and my dad alone."
"I think you're forgetting you're the one being ransomed here," Jin smirked. "Then again, a rich kid like you wouldn't understand the value of money, huh?"
"Maybe when you learn to make a living for yourself," The man murmured in Kazuya's defiant silence. He brought a finger to the boy's chin and tilted his face up to look at him. "When your dad fails to pay for you and you begin selling your body for me, maybe you'll learn to understand?"
"Don't touch me, you sick bastard!" Kazuya angrily slapped his hand away from him. Jin merely smirked once more and returned his hand inside his pocket.
"You and your old man have eleven more days," Jin said as he made his way back to the door. "Let's see how far you can go, Kazuya-kun."
Jin softly closed the door behind him, leaving Kazuya slamming his fist to the window once more in his rage.
