This is Elena at her most honest, truthfully showing Damon the two things she is sure of: she desires him, and she trusts him.

If I am allowed to fangirl vomit for a while, I think this is what really got to me the most! I truly expected her to continue being asleep, and then like open her eyes when she laid down, but then she didn't. As far as I am concerned, love now means trusting someone enough to let them know you are a creepy ogler. That's gonna look great cross-stitched on a pillow.

OMG me too! Let's face it, it would also be very much in character. But not this time. This time, Elena is tired of her stalemate, and just decides to send everything to hell and see what happens.

I admit to sometimes being frustrated by Elena's continued denial, even though I understand her reasons, but if Damon doesn't doubt her sincerity, why should we?

I think Damon could actually be ok even with her lack of love. Because she's being honest with him, and right now he knows better than to say: "You're the liar, Elena". He's learned that they don't lie to each other, not about this, and that's something, coming from Elena.
