Elena Gilbert Appreciation Week, Day Two (Nov. 6) - favorite Elena scene/moment
Now, I already wrote about my favorite Elena moment.
Here. Granted, it was a year ago, but it would still be terribly boring to repeat it again. So I'm going to talk about my favorite s4 moment instead.
You're not gonna make a sound
source The sound I made when I saw this scene wasn't human. Elena SMILED before she bit into that guy's neck. No hesitation, no remorse, no cold feet. She's a predator now, and the show isn't shy about it. She targets a guy and eats him, plain and simple. It's not about his victim (if it was about saving the victim, Elena would've moved the roofied drink out of the way). She just didn't like him. So she ate him with a grin.
I'm madly in love with Elena's malice, with her Mean Girl streak. As viewers, we're tempted to buy into Stefan's vision of Elena, mostly because Stefan often explicitly vocalizes his opinions. We like to think Elena is nothing like Katherine, we expect her to have an impossibly high moral standard, we're surprised or angry when she doesn't prove to be the most caring and compassionate person in the universe. But there's more to Elena than The Good Girl. There's always more. Elena is a vampire. Elena likes to play with food. She's not who Stefan thinks she is, she's not who Elijah thinks she is, she's not who Damon thinks she is. She's her own person with no neat label. She smiled before she bit the frat boy. Eventually she will kill someone, and despite of what we might like to think, it won't be the end of the world. She'll get over it, and she'll still be Elena. It won't break her. Deal with it.
